He is a witty smarta but he knows his philosophy, tries to be humorous and is actually funny to an extent. Quizzes were okay but got more difficult with each one (trick questions). Have one essay the entire semester.

It might be a philosophy professor thing: but his feedback on assignments can be confusing, abstract, and bizarre at times when he goes on a ramble about your work. There was some effort trying to decipher exactly what hes looking for, as he is very particular. 6-8 page term paper due at end of semester, and two exams which are essentially essays

Very smug. He loves to hear himself speak even though what he's talking about is nonsense.

Hard class but professor does a great job in lecture explaining everything. Ask questions if you're confused but listen during lecture because you might answer your own ? if you just listen to his lecture. Honors contract emphasized term paper. Doing homework ON TIME helps with lectures. 3/4 tests (one dropped). Little to no extra credit. Take him.

One of the best professors I have had at Mira mar. Extremely intelligent and makes lectures interesting. Tests were easy given you know the material. Homework can be procrastinated until test which is a +. Take his class, youre not going to find a better PHIL professor.

Taking his class is more like a test of your strength of will. Class is 90% lecture & 10% q&a. Frequently, Lopez will discuss what ever banal topic a student asks and it becomes tedious to listen to. TL;DR Do the journals and focus on study guides and you will be get a low A. Class is just boring and monotonous because of his style.

I took professor Lopez for values ethics, and I can say that he is a phenomenal professor for this class. He makes the class enjoyable and is very knowledgeable about the topic. His class is not an easy A, as you will have to do the readings and journals to get a good grade. If you put in the work you will get results. Make sure you go to class too

If you need structure and direction in a class, THIS IS NOT FOR YOU. Crazy vague, I mean like really no guidance. bulky assignments. No quizzes! Just midterm and final (40% of grade) to test your understanding. Hes nice enough and if youre good with independent learning and winging it, then you could be fine.

Took his online class. I found it super hard to get an A. Too much writing, tons of homework. The class itself was boring and tedious. Don't take it online, take it in person. Many people don't pass the online class.

I took his online 102A course over summer. Over eight weeks there were thirteen journals, ten discussions, a midterm, a term paper, and a final. He makes you work for the grade. I probably totaled around 15,000 words written. I recommend him if you're actually interested in philosophy.

I took his online Philosophy 102A course. He is a tough grader. I already had a background in philosophy when I took this course. I was already familiar with the readings. On the first day he stated that roughly 25 percent of people drop the class and another 25 percent fail. Expect to get a B or C.

Mike is really cool and makes the class really interesting. He makes every concept in the textbook extremely easy to understand in his lectures. The tests are hard even if you study for them, mainly because the material itself is confusing. The homework is an easy A and the writing assignment should be started early in the semester. Great class.

Professor Lopez is an incredible professor. Very straight forward and logical. He provides everything you need to pass the class. Students below who claim he didn't use his time efficiently to cover the material probably didn't pay attention in class. Read and do the work, as any college student should. Reasonable amount of work for honors students

Philosophy is a difficult subject for me because of all the concepts so I was lost in class. Lectures the whole time and sometimes boring, it can be interesting on some days. Be prepared to read a lot and write a journal (1.5-2 pages) every week. Midterm/final/term paper are difficult but he gives a study guide. Just study A LOT, ended with a B

You want an A. Be prepared to seriously work for it. The class will leave you with far more questions than answers. Dont try to be clever either there is no room for that, let your work speak for itself; and dont be sensitive about the comments. You may actually learn something. Other than that, he gives you what you need to pass.

Don't be deceived by his amazing looks. Yes, he's good looking but that's it. He's a cool dude but really strict. ATTENDANCE MATTERS and DO NOT BE LATE. He's strict on that and lectures the class like little kids when we are. He lectures all class period about the reading that is necessary to pass the class. Also expect a lot of writing.
