Lectures are super interesting. He didn't just test on exams (Papers, Presentations, Midterm, Final), which was nice. He's really straight forward with tests and he was so nice. Marks decently. Course topics were really cool! Definitely hope Neville teaches more classes in the future.

Comment:
Dr. Winchester was the senior lab instructor for this class. I found this lab to be really poorly organized. The first lab exam was extremely easy and then during the second one everyone ran out of time and things were unclear. There is very little direction for the final project and most of us felt completely lost. I wouldn't take again

Nerviles lab is the worst I have ever had. He will be very rude if he does not like you and he will mark ridiculously hard on your presentation and your paper. So make sure he likes you before taking his class.

Comment:
Tests are very unclear. For the research project, he was condescending about all ideas we can up with. Be warned he will look miserable during your presentation and marks HARD, then rips you apart in front of the class during the question section. Doesn't give criteria sheet before but grades hard against it. Would definitely avoid.

Neville is a both an educator and a conservationist and you can really feel that through his lectures, 329 is a great course, super fun to take in spring or summer. Lectures are cool, labs are cooler, lab is a lot of work but for sure worth it.

Neville is always available in lab, by email, and by appointment. He's very helpful, clear with his expectations, and clear where we needed to spend most of our time. Although the lab is quite intensive I have learned a lot and feel my mark reflects my amount of time studying/working on my insect collection.

Comment:
Condescending, rude, unhelpful. Lab manual riddled with spelling and grammar errors and has the nerve to correct others in a completely condescending tone. Lab learning outcomes were unclear and the lab TA couldn't have a normal conversation with anyone, let alone teach ANY material. Worst lab coordinator I've ever encountered by far.

I took Vertebrates of BC during the summer and had a wonderful experience in this course. I highly recommened it to anyone interested in the field, his test are really fair, and if you show up to class and read his notes proper you will do well. Neville really knows his stuff and shows his enthusiasm and knowledge clearly. Also very helpful!!

The least helpful teacher I have yet to encounter. He was quite okay with the fact over 10% of the class didn't finish the exam because they ran out of time. Absolutely no sympathy. If you don't get it, tough luck. Worst lab Manual I have ever read, I think they invented spell check a few years back.

Had Neville for Bio 330 as a lab TA. He was ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC. He knows his stats like nobody I've ever met. Very helpful and always willing to explain things in a way that makes you truly understand what he's talking about. I am so glad I had him to teach me stats, otherwise my Biology degree would be useless.

Comment:
Lab instructor in 330, doesn't clearly explain things. Pushes to make you do things on your own. Didn't want to help on project analysis. I had to go to the prof to help me on my lab project instead. Also had him for Prof & Lab instructor in 329. He was okay, but did not post his slides. He went off on tangents, unclear if it was testable material.

Lecture is super boring unless you're really stoked about conservation biology, but the lab will make you appreciate BC's fauna more than ever before. The lab takes work, but it's worth it! Lecture exams are very fair and straight from class.

You couldn't ask for much more out of a prof. He's into his topic, he makes in interesting. He's always around to help with questions from the lecture or lab. Very knowledgeable and he goes above and beyond to help his students.

Neville is a cool little dude (emphasis on little). His lectures are interesting and he teaches with energy and passion, so you can't help but be interested in what he's lecturing about. Sometimes though, the notes are a little unorganized. He's always available after class to answer questions and he's totally easy to talk to (doesn't put on airs)
