Comment:
Mr. Barber is very knowledgeable of his subjects. Expect to self teach if you don't think like a programmer. He doesn't seem to relate well to ignorance or people who are unwilling to be self sufficient. Bottom line: He gives you the tools to succeed but he will not hold your hand on your difficult journey there.

Comment:
I've attended several real colleges, and Mr. Barber is the best teacher I've ever had. He doesn't fit in at Pellissippi because his courses prepare you to move to a four-year school while most of the other CS teachers' classes prepare you to be a receptionist. Students mostly don't like him because they expect him to teach like the others do.

If you have no programming experience, I will say do not take him. A lot of people are struggling in his class. I've had to go to tutoring at least 3hrs a week. He is bad at explaining what he wants you to do. His grading scale doesn't make sense. He expects you to just know what he is talking about. He is not resourceful, does not use book.

He's a great instructor and very passionate about computer science. He has a good sense of humor and is very approachable. He does write his own tests which makes them more difficult than those from other professors. If your goal is to learn, take his class.

Old Unix guy. Great teacher and really thorough with the material. Its a very hard class but he was always willing to help out and extended deadlines when needed. Sometimes he rants about something, but its usually amusing. He helped make a very hard class bearable and even helped me boost my grade up. Nice guy who knows what matters in life.

Skips the basics and goes right into more advanced c programming. Tests are very difficult, and labs are challenging. Out of the class of 30 only 4 passed with C's.

Comment:
Goes over material too fast. And lab instructions are not very clear. His office isn't very student friendly either(no place to sit) His tests are rather difficult, doesn't offer a precise study guide just very general. GET a tutor if u want a good grade.
