Professor Lai is extremely smart but his teaching style is hard to get used to. u do the hw 1st b4 learning the material & for tax that is hard. the tax dept allows open book exams but Lai does it closed book which makes it tougher.overall great professor not an easy A at all. oh, he is rude so u must have a thick skin for him! good luck

Prof Lai really knows the subject, but doesn't know that we're just an intro class. There is so much materials to cover and not enough time to completely understand it. Class is taught like an intermediate course and tests are confusing despite being multiple choice.

It is NOT difficult course. If you follow his instructions and do all his assignments and homework, you should have no problem in the exams.He is a nice guy and always willing to help. You will learn a lot from him.I highly recommend those students who need Tax 612 to take him.You can NOT find someone better than him at St. John?s.

Lai doesn't go over anything he thinks you should just get re material right away. He's tests are hard and usually don't match anything we did for homework or in class. Guy looks to enjoy watching students suffer. He must have wholes in his life that needs to be filled with watching you suffer. No help he tells u to call some kid in the class.

Bad. Just bad. Doesn't teach anything. Expects everyone to read the textbook and automatically understand everything w/o any guidance or explanation. Don't know why he even showed up to "teach" the class each week. Also never returned any work so no way to know if you understand the material or not. Would NOT recommend. Avoid if you can.

I have had this professor for all of my tax classes. The only thing I can say is if you actually want to learn something regarding s-corps, c-corps, partnernships, etc. then take this professor. He explains everything in detail, and he makes sure at the end of class that you understand what's going on.

A very nice guy. Not a hard grader, and I feel bad for saying this but... He really is a pretty bad teacher. He doesn't actually teach much at all, he makes you read the chapter, do the homework for that chapter, and then he'll review that homework in class, and thats pretty much it.

A lot of work but Lai's good. Like his teaching style, does problems throughout the class to reinforce the concepts. Tests are open-book open-note, I thought there were no surprises. The bad thing is we had to do 2 tax returns, which were very time-consuming and there's lots of homework. Take Aquilio if you have a choice.

He is a funny guy with a good sense of humor who makes fun of other professors! The workload is not that much. You only have to try the homework, he does not check for correctness. His tests come from the homework, they are all multiple choice and he tells you exactly what will be on the test. Good guy, pretty good teacher but jumps around a bit.
