Incredible professor! His Shakespeare class was one of the best of my entire college career. Tough but fair grader. He really gets the best out of his students. If you go to Brown take his classes. Can't recommend highly enough!

I had Rick as a professor at Tulane before he left for Emory. He inspired us more than any other professor that I can remember. His ideas were challenging, daring, and fun. He made me enjoy Shakespeare on an entirely new level; however, in order to get an A, I discovered that I must regurgitate his ideas in the bluebook--not my own.

Comment:
This guy is horrendous. Two days of lecture on Marxism when the name of the class was Early Renaissance Poetry. He actually had the gall to say, "I hope you guys realize this has been Marxism 101." I actually got as a comment on a paper, "What about Marx?" He is a joke, his ideas philosophically adolescent. He should be fired.

I disliked this class so much. He's a nice man, but the film choices were awful! Prior to this class I had always done well in English classes but he ripped me apart. Many students believed that he had already decided grades before reading papers. I got the exact same grade on all 3 papers despite taking them to various writing workshops and profs

Best Prof. I have had at Emory, extremely knowledgeable and passionate... extremely kind and always helpful. However, VERY HARD grader...but you will become a better writer if you take this class. Also manages to analyze passages somewhat abstractly and manages to find interpretations you would not have even thought of. Extremely interesting.

The best professor I've had at Emory, extremely knowledgeable, passionate about his subject, and gets you interested even if you came thinking you wouldn't be. He is a tough grader, but fair, and your writing will improve because of him. Take him before you leave!
