Great professor! his lectures are great and he really keeps you engaged the entire time. He uses real life cases to explain all of the material, which is so cool. There are three online exams and an optional extra credit essay. Take good notes and you'll be fine on the tests!

Comment:

Prof McDermott is my favorite professor that I've ever had. You probably won't pass if you don't go to class (often), as the 3 easy-ish tests are based off the lectures (which are GREAT). They're interesting and funny and you can tell his very passionate about his work. He has clear grading criteria and will help you if need be. HIGHLY recommend.

Comment:

Professor McDermott is truly one of the greatest professors that I've ever had. He gives really great advice, is always eager to have a discussion with his students, and really cares a lot. He cares a lot about his students and gives extra credit. No homework or quizzes, only 2-3 tests which are very straightforward and understandable. Amazing man!

THE BEST TEACHER AT ST. JOHNS!!! Prof McDermott has a great energy and keeps you engaged the entire time. He makes the material very interesting to the point where you want to be in the room, even though its a 3 hour night class. I would take him again 100%

Cool and funny guy. Reminds me of Saul Goodman from Breaking Bad. Classes are generally a little boring due to it being a night class, but Professor McDermott is pretty cool. Only three exams and an optional extra credit essay that can really boost your grade! DO NOT BUY A TEXTBOOK

He is genuinely a nice guy. Tries to make the class more lively with crazy stories from the cases he has done. very experienced in his field of work and demonstrates it nicely in the classroom. All you have to do to pass the class is listen in class and take decent notes.

Really knows what he's talking about just boring. It was a 3 hour monday night class so that probably made it worst. Take good notes and you'll do fine. No homework except readings (so no hw) and 3 tests + optional extra credit research paper

Mr McDermott is great. He is knowledgeable, professional, keeps the class engaged and willing to answer questions. Took him for a night class and although it was a 3 hour night class he kept us all engaged and was interesting to listen to. Don't need the textbook, but you have to take good notes! If you need the course, take him its worth it

This guy is awsome! Knows every aspect of the law, any question you ask him he knows it! Super Smart guy! Uses great examples in class, tests are pretty easy. Never takes attendance but i do recomend going to class that way you dont have to buy the book. If you want to skip class just buy the book.

Easy class in which you learn much. It's about the basics, and you learn the basics in a clear manner. Tests are not hard if you take reasonably good notes. Enthusiastic, uses real-life examples to explain the material (sometimes real oddball ones...)

you'll definitely have to work for an A. He doesn't give homeworks and you dont even have to buy the textbook. Just make sure you take good notes and you'll be fine!
