Where to even start... Dr. Spivey is a good person but a terrible teacher. My entire grade came from 5 assignments, 4 of which were tests. He puts in minimal effort. Lots of videos in class, we never finished them in one class and he'd promise we'd watch it next class. Next class he'd forget. No feedback on tests so you have no idea what to study.

Taking soc 1020 online, this man has completely lost it. Exams are 80% of our grade, 50 questions and 50 minutes only. We read like 4 chapters a week between two books and have discussions on every chapter. Do not take him , hes setting us up for failure .

You can tell that he is a nice person but he talks ALL THE TIME. He will get side tracked and will not go over the notes. His class is boring and I do not recommend that you take it. He does not tell you what to study for and he does not really specify what we should read or what we should do.

Dr. Spivey is a nice professor just very difficult to follow. You don't have a clear understanding of what you will have on tests. He teaches with powerpoint slides and youtube videos. Mostly boring class, not enough time allowed in order to fully complete his tests. I would not recommend taking any class with him.

Spivey is pretty cool just talks a lot. his class consist of power points, test and presentations out of the books and documentary videos. Participation and attendance isn't a big deal.

Dr. Spivey is a cool professor but all he did for my class was sit at his desk and go through powerpoint slides and talk. When he talks, its like hes just reading off of the slides basically. It's not a bad thing but sometimes it gets boring. We also watched a few documentaries which was pretty cool. I def DONT reccomend taking a 2 hour class w him

Dr. Spivey is an awseome guy. He's funny, laid back, and tries to make learning fun. However, his tests are hard because the questions are hard to understand. Read the book and you will be fine. Also, make sure you do not miss more than 3 days in his class and that you follow the instructions for the paper.If you do those things, you will be fine.

Nice person not prepared for class. "Lectures" by "reading" key concepts in chapter; not consistent in taking roll or remembering from class to class what is going on. Gives out reading assignments & often fails to have discussion at the next class. Read the book for tests! Doesn't care what students do during class time which is distracting!

I liked Dr. Spivey in the first month. Interesting, nice person. After awhile, he just read straight from the book without teaching. He will tell you what is on the test but you will have to figure it out. He was better in 102 than another class I had him for.

While he is a very nice teacher with some interesting stories, he does not focus on teaching. Come test-time, you have very little info to go on with lots of book material on a test. He didn't seem prepared to teach. He also never returns tests/papers/projects at all.

Spivey is unique, very. Not clear at all in his presentations. The books he picks are not good at all. His tests are HARD. Start studying after each class, trust me, as a CJ major and a Senior, I know. If you are looking to get by easy, dont take him for a class. if you are a senior getting your last hours, look elsewhere.

He is great as a person, but is not as a teacher. Most of his lectures put in into a coma. Reads straight from the book. He never bothered to match student's names with their faces...so I am not sure how he will grade class participation.

Dr. Spivey is a really nice guy, but isn't very clear about what he expects out of the students. He tends to procrastinate, and I am not even sure he checks the attendance sheets. I think I was more confused than anything in his class. Also, he tests are unpredictable. (Great guy, not so great teacher)
