Students tend to not like Dr. Gratz because he is an old school lecture professor. If you are willing to put the work in and really make an effort, your grade will reflect it. If you don't study, or don't come to class, you will be murdered by his exams. Fun to talk to, very easy going.

BORING professor! i want to kill myself every time im in that class. Teaches very slowly which is a good thing....but he doesnt teach well def read the book do work problems and what not. Im taking him again for the second half cause ASPER is way ahead.

Very helpful and genuinely interested in the material. Tests are hard but fair so you have to really study hard. Weekly quizzes help you learn the material in stages. Labs are pretty easy too.

Dr. Gratz's quizes/tests can be difficult if you haven't put the time into learning the material. If you study (really study!) for a few hours a week outside of class, then you can expect to get a descent grade. He does end up curving all of the test grades.

His class is tough, especially if chem is not your strong suit. A lot of us were confused by his lectures and had to teach ourselves outside of class. He gives a big curve on the tests to correct for the bad grades, but there shouldn't be that many Ds and Fs in the first place. Very relaxed about lab, more than the other orgo teachers.

If this is a class you absolutely must take, carefully consider how you did in the first semester of Organic Chemistry. Whatever grade you earned in the first semester will go down a letter. The questions asked on exams are "out there", and no matter how much you study, it is for naught. He will find creative ways to take points off your exam.

Some people are born to teach difficult material. Gratz is not one of them. He is incredibly talented at making already complex material seem 10000 times more complicated. If you think you completely understand something, you're mistaken. He'll demoralize you with his exams. Of a class whittled down to 30, there will be 20 C's, D's, and F's.

oh man, what an awful prof. you pretty much have to teach the class to yourself, because his lectures are really confusing, sometimes off-topic, and totally dull. his tests are really hard and his curve doesn't help much. avoid this guy if you want to go to med school- it's a tough class and you need a good prof.

Very nice man, a little silly but nice. He talks softly so you have to listen. He curves, none of the other o chem teachers curve. If you do your work and go to class, you will do fine.

Doesnt teach well at all. Pretty much have to teach yourself and its not easy. He just draws products and reactions doesnt and explain them and says "we are out of time you can do the rest on your own."

This is an extremely hard class, which requires a very helpful/clear professor. He is neither one. I went to him for help many times and got nothing...so I was pretty much left on my own. He has no sympathy. Also, makes you show up to class 30 minutes earlier for tests.

I had him for organic chemistry and i thought that he presented the topic well and is always available for afterclass assistance. Do homework problems... it definitely helps. it you learn so much from that class.
