If you are a beginner in painting, please save your time and money and do not take this class. This instructor has absolutely no compassion or consideration for beginners and will publicly put down your work. Painting is supposed to be joyful and relaxing, but all I ever felt in this class is stress. Nobody should come to class feeling that way.

I took her fall 18 for oil painting. As a teacher, I can say that I did not learn anything from taking her class. I expected to learn techniques when using oil painting but she just hands out worksheets for you to read. She can talk down to you and sometimes she says one thing and says another and forgets. She like to ramble on.

She is very educated on art and (when actually giving them) has great tips on how to improve your art. HOWEVER if you are a beginner do not take her class. She is very dismissive of beginners, often discouraging them or outright insulting their abilities. She goes on long tangents/rants, doesn't have people skills and she often comes across as rude

The class was not what I expected. A majority of the class days were focused on one project and other projects had more freedom. Clear guidelines for what's required in your notebook/projects. It's useful to make friends, you may have to rely on your classmates.

If you want to learn how to watercolor, I highly encourage it. But I suggest it being with a professor who has more communication skills because that is key to learning. Attendance is required, otherwise she won't help you out a lot if you missed. If you miss, you must rely on the student body to get the work done.

I'm not going to lie I thought about what I would write on here throughout the entire semester. I took her Watercolor class on Fridays. The semester started on a terribly bad note with me joint class a week early. But basically if you giver her what SHE WANTS you will do fine. Overall good teacher.

Loved learning about watercolor. How can you get a good grade in this class? Follow her directions, listen to what she asks for. You do not have to be the best artist in order to pass the class with a good grade, you do what she has assigned. In other words, do not tell the teacher how to teach. You will learn so much from this lovely lady.

I don't know why so many people are saying she can't teach. She was super clear about every project we had. She gives a handout explaining the project, tells you what she wants, and then even demo's it in class. Super sweet, and is generous about letting students use her art supplies the first few weeks of class. I recommend her.

Mrs. Vandermeiden does not know how to teach. In the Anatomy for Art class, we were expected to memorize 50 muscles and bones - that's all! Not so much as a mention as to how this knowledge could be used in art.

Very knowledgeable in the field knows her stuff, but doesn't know how to teach it Also doesn't communicate things well, confusing to know how/when she wants things and is upset and accuses you of not paying attention if not doing things correctly even though her instructions were vague and unclear. Gets easier to talk to her as the semester goes on

Sharon is a highly educated and talented artist. She is very inspiring. Many students return to take her class again. She has true concern for the well being of the students and will try to help you find what your inner artistic strenghts are. She expects much and will get much from you if you show up and do your best. You will enjoy this class.

I wanted to learn watercolor; she taught only basic art concepts- no watercolor. Total waste of time.
