Marine Mammals was team-taught with Drs. Grippo and Sikkel. Dr. Risch taught a large part of the class,except for the A & P, conservation, contaminants, and parasites sections. Three exams, all short answers--questions came entirely from notes, so you MUST be in class! Enjoyed the class a lot. Would take any class Dr. Risch taught.

Techniques lecture was pretty much a statistics class...lots of math, mainly algebra. If you've had applied stats already, the math is pretty easy to follow, but if you haven't had applied stats yet it's going to be a bit more difficult. Exams were take home, open note (no textbook for the class), plus two papers (one for lecture, one for lab).

Had Dr. Risch for Mammalogy & Lab this fall. Awesome class, learned a TON. Tests come directly from the notes (written on board, does not use powerpoints). Must study lab specimens intensely to do get an A/B on lab practicals. Very helpful, loves to answer questions. Will take again.

I loved Dr. Risch. He's also my advisor. He was very clear about everything...and he's the reason I declared Biology as my major. He isn't teaching Zoo right now. But, if he starts again. Def. take him for Zoo. I'm taking his Wildlife Management Class in the fall!

Amazing! He writes on the whiteboard, no powerpoint. Tests are DIRECTLY from notes. He breaks down large concepts into smaller manageable pieces (detailed) and then brings it together and presents the big picture. BONUS POINTS AT RANDOM. Come to class (especially after quizzes) he gives bonus points if you pick up your quiz. He is funny & laid back

He knows his information, and he is good at breaking ideas down in a sense that makes them easy to comprehend and memorize. He gives a lot of notes that are important to take (the test comes directly from them). Don't skip because there are bonus opportunities and quizzes. He's very nice, very funny, and very helpful! Good class, good professor

Go to class everyday.He igves bonus points and sometimes random quizes. Take notes everyday and do not take his tests lightly, because he only gives three! He keeps the class interesting. he has some halarious stories not to metion his dry humor is extremely funny!

He gives 3 tests and about 7 quizes over the semester. To do well, go everyday and take his notes because they are the tests. Then focus on taxonomy, function, and characteristics of everything in the notes. The tests are pretty straight forward if you study. Nice guy, keeps the class interesting.

He is hilarious! He doesn't know what he's writing on the board, so everybody just gets use to him writing one thing and saying another. Go by what he says, obviously. lol. Don't buy the book!!! Be careful w/ the "study guide" kids have b/c he knows abt it & will change the tests to mess you up!

WONDERFUL TEACHER! You will never use the book because tests are straight from the notes. Makes the class interesting and is very passionate about his field. However, go to class. Doesn't take attendence but you will miss lots of bonus points and quizzes if you skip.

Hilarious!!! Don't buy the book. If you have the notes and study them it is an easy class. He answers all questions clearly. He is slightly dislescsic so he will write some pretty funny stuff on the board. We had show up quizzes almost every Friday or atleast when no one was there. Take Dr. Risch, really funny & helpful.

you wont need the 140 dollar book. His tests are straight from the notes. He gives quizzes mostly on fridays b/c no one came to class. Ask alot of questions DURING class, he likes class participation, but dont maake it a big discussion. Other wies, meet him after class to check yoru status, you'll do great!
