Comment:

Ventura is both good and bad. He actively cultivates his intimidating professer/genius persona to the extent that he cannot admit when he is wrong. He also relies almost entirely on TAs for grading and evaluation which means he doesn't actually know that much about his students. That said, his classes are powerful, interesting and worth taking.

Amazing professor, amazing course. Ventura is thoughtful and sensitive to student's needs without being wishy washy. He does not allow people to push him around, and has very high expectations of his class; that said, it is clear that he really does want everyone to do well, and if you communicate with him he will be happy to help you.

I think ventura wants to kill me. He is intimidating, and brilliant, and loves people to talk in class. the workload is painful. note: 220+ level courses mean 300 level, as far as expectations and work. My favorite class is also the one I dread most. oh, and do the work. seriously.

Although his TAs were crazy about him, I didn't really learn anything in this class . He encouraged us to talk so much that people would blurt out random things just because he would get so angry if we didn't talk. Very late eval too, after many emails to him I got it finally.

although he may seem a little intimidating at first ventura always has your best interest in mind. he is enthusiastic and encuraging and will push you to do your best. he is an intelligent man and it is evident that he loves what he's doing.

Ventura is the best teacher I have encountered at Hampshire College. Once you get on his good side and prove yourself as a willing and able student he will do anything for you.
