I'm really bad at learning languages, it just doesn't click with my brain. However, I'm also really determined to get some of Japanese under my belt, and Sensei is really great at dealing with my incompetence and is super patient with me. I actually took him (and failed) for my first Japanese class, and retook it with him again bc he's just great.

He sometimes has trouble rewording things to explain so you might need a couple youtube videos but otherwise he's great, he tells you what you need to know for the tests and he made a very conceptual, memorization-based class totally passable. Talk to him! He's super receptive to student feedback if you speak up.

If you read the textbook you're guaranteed an easy A. He's fluent in English and accepts late work. Slow class; take this class if you want a non-serious class for General Education. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS if you're taking Japanese learning seriously tip: learn hiragana and katakana before taking this class; it makes everything so so much easier.

I had Sensei Takata for Japanese 001 but I unfortunately had to drop the class towards the end of the semester because I just couldnt keep up. I (personally) never passed a test but I made sure to do all my homework and participate as best as I could. Hes the sweetest kindest old man though! I hated leaving him:( Just be sure to study hard!!

Hes nice Ill be honest but a terrible professor. I dont have any idea how I passed his linguistics class with understanding him. He frequently says just read the book or somewhere in the book try to make the best out of it. Dont recommend him that highly.

Takata is a good professor given that he adds his own humor to his lectures. Not only that, he supplies with his own knowledge that is relative to the course, which adds more interest. Solid if you want to learn. I need to warn you though, the textbook is expensive, and its not found on cheap textbook sites.

Pros - His lectures are fun and his drawings are extremely cute as well. - He accepts late homework - Exams are from lectures. Read textbooks, listen to class, do his homework will guarantee you at least a pass. Cons - I don't think there is any extra credit

Not the best lecturer, very boring. Heavy accent, but you get used to it. He is very knowledgable, however, he does not teach what he knows too well. You have to do a fair amount of studying on your own. Test on every chapter, 1 paper, and a final. Tests include fill in the blanks. He lets you miss 5 classes before he deducts participation points.

This class was AWFUL. He just reads from the book for lectures. He even said in class, "I'm not a good speaker, you're better just to read from the book." You just have to read the book, listen to him read it to you, and take some tests. This guy is not a teacher, teachers engage their students and arouse interest. PAINFULLY boring and uninspired.

Professor Takata was really helpful. He assigns hw and it's really easy. Lectures made me understand the book clearly though he would only teach on what is in the book. He's very nice and considerate to his students. Though I got a C in the class, it just got harder and harder towards the end of the course.

Professor Takata is a very nice professor. You will have about 89 tests, (basically every other week) which are very easy. Just skim the chapter before the exam and you will get at least 90%. There is only one paper you have to write, 3 pages maximum and he is a very lenient grader. Take him if you are looking for a good linguistics professor!

Sensei was such an amazing Japanese teacher! He taught hiriganakatakanakanji very clearly and I am able to read a bit of japanese. The textbook is essential, all his tests are based off of the dialouges in the book (same book used for Jpn1-3) He is very funny and cracks awesome jokes to teach in his lectures. Assigns easy homework. arigatou!

Very helpful. Lets you ask questions up until the day of the class. Won't make you feel bad for asking "silly" or "stupid" questions. Homework is assigned nearly everyday, and collected the next day.

Wouldn't say he's a 4 for easiness.Love the prof but LOTS of self-studying.What you'd expect for a level 2 class, I guess. Take notes when he teaches grammar, write down examples. Got an A but had to study a lot, was hoping to get more speaking practice in class but he mostly taught grammar and read the dialogues himself, or played the recording.

Sensei is one of the most inspiring teachers I've ever had. He has a way of bringing out the best in students without piling on too much pressure. Like others have mentioned, attending the Kanken workshop opens up new possibilities in learning Japanese, and it's just fun!

Simply, he is a very nice teacher. He always lets students to fully understand whatever they learn with clear examples. Tests are very easy too. All of the questions on a test come from what you learned. He never makes the test with what you didn't learn.
