Comment:
Andy's great. He has an encyclopedic knowledge of music/music history. His lectures are very entertaining (and frankly all over the place, but in the best way possible). His R&B class was substantially more difficult than I had anticipated, though, but I felt it was more than worthwhile despite the difficulty.

Andy is an awesome professor. He knows everything there is to know about music, is clear and understandable even to people who don't have any music experience, and is overall a very nice and approachable person. He is a very fair grader, but people generally seem to do well in his class since they usually get to pick their own paper topics..

Andy is as good a lecturer as the stories say. I'm not remotely interested in music, but he engages you (singing shape notes in class, listening to interactive worldwide radio) and makes frequent connections to race, citizenship, etc. Exams hold you accountable for doing the reading. Two essays (one 2 pages and one 6-8) on open-ended topics.

super easy going, very approachable! If you pay effort and go to his office hours, you would definitely get good grades. He would mark your drafts and give constructive comments. A little prior music theory background would be useful for his classes. Overall, a very interesting class and excellent prof.

Andy is the chillest prof on campus. His ego is fairly predominant, but he's such an easy-going guy. If you put in at least a little bit of work and participate occasionally, you'll love his class.

Great professor, SO knowledgable about musicology. His courses are not very theory-based. Readings are very interesting, but classes could be better organized. Overall, Andy's classes are wonderful

Andy inspired me to be a music major. His level of knowledge about American music is impressive, but never intimidating. Andy will help make you a better listener and appreciator of music. He's also very friendly and is interested in getting to know his students and their musical interests. I guarantee you'll learn a lot from Andy and enjoy it too!

Instructor had total disinterest in the course. The exams are ridiculously hard. It is a Music class..it should have been an easy A. Would never recommend.
