The class was difficult but not outside the ordinary, in my opinion. Here study guides were clear and concise. It's important to attend class though, since exams rely more on lecture material than the textbook.

Comment:

This is the hardest class that I have ever taken In my life. Her test/quizzes rarely ever make since, often times contain new information we have not discussed yet in the course. If you don't talk about something in the discussion board and can't read her mind your answers are wrong on the test. I wouldnt wish this class on my worst enemy. Beware!!

I have nothing but terrible things to say about Dr. Holmes. She makes a freshmen level geology course difficult by expecting the students to read her mind instead of the textbook. Her tests are poorly designed, her grading is incredibly inaccurate, and her lectures jump around with no rhyme or reason. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Online class for Geol of National Parks, easy class, but you will work. Participate in the discussion boards, help build the study guides. Use the study guides to do quizzes and exams. Shes's an amazing professor, I'd recommend taking her Face to face though!

I had professor Holmes for Geology and just recently had her for an online class called "Geology of the National Parks" although I didn't really like having her in class because the tests were kinda tough (maybe i just didn't study enough) I really enjoyed her online class. At first it was confusing but once you get the hang of it its easy.

Pretty tough for a gen-ed online class. Must post on discussion board daily. Weekly quizzes aren't too bad, google becomes even more of your best friend. Tests come from quizzes, but the final is tough. The group project wasn't horrible, but she graded tough on it.

I would not take her again. She gives 5 exams in this class and they all take quite a bit of studying to understand. Lots of tough memorization and her lectures are all over the place, disorganized, and unclear. Expect online quizzes and assignments with little to no notice. Online quizzes usually don't work. The class is a major headache. Avoid.

Dr. Holmes is a very nice and accommodating professor. However her lectures are extremely unorganized and she loves to give tons of assignments without notice online. Her tests are far more difficult than the lecture material and the online quizzes suggest. I would recommend not taking her at any cost. Much to difficult for Gen Ed class.

I am warning you right now, DO NOT take this class. Almost half the people I know in the class are failing. The lectures are very unorganized and you will not have the slightest clue as to what is going on. This is apparently her first time teaching a non online geol course. She is terrible. The study guide is NOTHING like the test. DONT TAKE.

I LOVE Dr. Holmes! She is my favorite professor at UTC. She really cares and is willing to help you. The tests are a little hard, but the review before the test goes over absolutely everything. I would take any class she taught.

Dr. Holmes is a very nice and knowledgeable professor. She is willing to do extra to help you understand the subject matter. However gives dozens of small assignments during class with no heads up, so attendance is a must. Her notes are unclear and hard to follow. The exams are tough and you must know the material very well in order to pass.

Ridiculous amount of assignments. Her lectures are unorganized. She's a slow grader. She loves long open-ended questions so that she can lower your score on the testsquizzes. AVOID AT ALL COST.

Although it's a 3 hr class, its just as much work as a 4 hr class. She expects you to be online everyday, keeping up with class discussion boards. Participation in these is just as essential to your grade as the test. She is somewhat helpful but more rude than anything. I highly recommend that you take another teacher or another class.

Really nice lady and willing to help you if you have questions, but her lectures seem disorganized. She will jump around between several unrelated topics in each class, often spending less than 20 minutes on each. She gives occasional in-class worksheets, and online quizzes- without telling the class until after they're due. I would avoid her.

If you don't have a background in Geology DON'T TAKE HER OR THIS CLASS. Participation requirements are ridiculous. You have to log in every day and be willing to spend hours listening to her long boring lectures and post in the discussion board. This is 30x more work than all my other classes combined. Absolutely absurd.

Loved her. She's funny and knows that you're probably only taking Geology because you have to, not because you want to. She tries to make class fun and easy for you. She also remembers your name, which is nice of her. She's very helpful. If you need to take a science, take geo with Holmes.

Comment:

Dr. Holmes is an awesome teacher! She is funny and has a great sense of humor. It is hard to follow her while taking notes sometimes but that is only because she is so passionate. Lab is harder than lecture but she makes sure you understand everything before you leave(which is usually early). I highly recommend her if you are interested in Geology.

Mrs. Holmes is kind of like the geology version of Mrs. Frizzle. She's got a lot of awesome stories, the fossil collecting field trip is fun, and she's a lenient grader. Only downside is, her lectures are kind of a mishmash of info and she rarely emphasizes what will or won't be on an exam. WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN. Or find someone with old tests :)

I took her online class and it was easy though time consuming. Did more work than the average lecture class. Even so, she is very willing to help and meet with students and also was good if you feel a little behind and turned in something a day late.
