Comment:
Still very difficult but worth it. Phillips sits down and talks with you rather than lectures, a teaching style that is unfortunately disappearing. He also likes to tease you by hinting of the difficulty of upcoming grammar. Ultimately, a challenging course but still fun.

Really cool guy who really knows what's what. His exams are difficult but it's ancient Greek so...He throws in some extra credit papers here and there to help you out. He also provides some interesting little bits of info to coincide with the material. Highly recommended (if you're willing to learn Greek)!

I think Dr. Phillips has a very thorough understanding of ancient philosophy but I had difficulty understanding the material in the way that he taught it. I ended up googling terms to get a better grasp on things. Phillips is a great guy but has difficulty bringing philosophy down to a student level.

i don't so much have a critique of phillips, but the 'history of ancient' class...it would have been more reasonable to focus on a few seminal works, rather than trying to cover absolutely everything. i just don't think i had time to digest any of the individual works or thinkers. if you don't have to take it - don't.

This course was difficult, being that it was a Greek course. But Dr. Phillips was very helpful and explanatory. He works hard to make sure the students are grasping the information. Very considerate and friendly as well. Highly recommend!
