Among the best professors at the U. Dr. Engar is incredibly knowledgeable; she will be able to answer any question you could imagine relating to course material. She is tough but fair as far as grading is concerned. Her React courses are fun, and to this day I still remember the lessons she lead on Marlowe and Shakespeare.

Ann is probably the most knowledgeable person I've ever met. She is also very understanding when students are having a hard time or need something. She assigned four essays for the semester, and that was the entire grade. Reading was assigned to every class, and there was a lot of it. She is so sweet, and her class is so interesting.

I really enjoyed her class. She was a tough grader, but her comments were helpful. She lectures a lot but the topics are interesting and she encourages class participation. She was also willing to read our papers and give us feedback before they were due so we could get good grades. She clearly cares about her students and wants us to succeed.

I constantly found that she graded materials quite harshly, and occasionally left scathing, and non-constructive criticisms for feedback. On multiple instances I found myself trying to write in parallel to her opinion, and performed better on these assignments as well, because anyone that doesn't agree completely with her didnt "understand".

Dr. Engar is truly the greatest professor I have ever had. She really cares about her students and wants you to succeed. The first semester of the leap class is challenging but very beneficial and it just gets better as time goes on. She answers any questions you have and puts a lot of thought into it. She is incredible and I learned so much.

Great class! There is a reading assignment every day, which we discuss during class. She gives great background and insight to the reading assignments. The grade is based on two papers and two tests (which are also essays). So if you understand the readings and like to write, this class won't be hard for you.

Reacting to the Past is a fantastic class and Ann is very experienced with this format. The class is basically like LARPing for college and honors credit. Be prepared to write a lot, from speeches, to any other creative writing piece. Also be willing to have fun with the class and immerse yourself in the games and you'll have a blast.

Ann is a great professor, but all the IT courses are a bit bland. This course at least covered a lot of history dealing with science and not too much religion compared to the others. Lots of essays, but they really help for the final (which is a fair but tough one) and she is willing to proofread your essays too.

This class is very exciting and Ann does a good job of keeping it going. She takes kind of a backseat role in "reacting to the past" classes, but is still completely available for support.

This class was one of my favorite classes. I took it last spring and had a blast! Prof. Engar provides background on the topics explored, but the class is mostly taught by other students. I will definitely take another Reacting to the Past with Engar before I graduate. Can be time consuming, but totally worth it!

Finished the Pre-Law LEAP program last school year & I'm glad I did! Even though I've decided not to go to law school, Dr. Engar has been amazing! It gets more fun at the end of the program & you begin to build a closer relationship w/her. This class was super helpful and it's amazing for her to watch you grow as a potential law school applicant.

Dr. Engar was a great teacher, her LEAP class was super easy, great to ease your way if you are just starting college off. As the class was super easy it was also a little boring, but none of the readings or assignments were too hard, and she is always willing to help students!

Dr. Engar is a great professor - I was relatively anxious about my Intellectual Traditions class before school started, but Engar really eases you through the material. Participation is not graded, which I liked a lot. For papers, Engar was very helpful. She also offered extra credit throughout the semester, and some teachers don't do that.

Great teacher, I learned a lot. The readings were fun and didn't dive right into the law world. Let you ease into it. Papers weren't too hard, good class!

I felt that she was not happy to be there. The books assigned had poor grammar and were not always relevant to what the class was supposed to be about. The class was meant to be about law in American Society, and she was so focused on different groups in America that the aspect of law was often missing from the class or was briefly touched upon.

This is my 3rd year with Dr. Engar in the LEAP program. She's a nice woman but assigns a lot of readings in her classes. Honestly, she just wants to expose her students to different cultural elements and prepare them for law school. She's a quiet lecturer, not very lively or uniquely interesting. But she's very accommodating with personal problems.

Engar's Intellectual Traditions course was one of the defining experiences of my time at the U of U. I have to laugh a bit at the ratings that describe the topic as "boring." Montaigne and Rousseau are boring? Not if you pay attention! Engar is an inspiration--intellectually rigorous, witty, compassionate. Take her class if you can!

You will read a lot, and it will suck. A couple papers are assigned (make sure whatever you write, you agree with her opinions on the material, otherwise she'll mark you down), and the 10 essays in 2 hours final is hell. Enjoy!

Dr. Engar is really helpful and understanding if you just talk to her. She may come across at first as not such a nice prof, but that's misleading-- she is really nice. A ton of reading though! She lectures on all of it, so if you miss a day of reading it isn't hard to get the concept. Pretty easy class... like I said, just a ton of reading...
