Comment:

His 3hr night class was the worst! Wastes a lot of time emphasizing/reviewing material that was covered in ASL 1. He signs and has you repeat signs back to him over and over until it's perfect. He's forgetful and signs different every time during tests/quizzes. Unclear grading criteria and takes long to grade stuff. Lenient w/ late assignments.

He is truly passionate about what he teaches, but this means he will just be hard on you. Do not miss class, you will never hear the end of it. Make sure you study and do your homework. He can be caring but only if you're a hard worker. He is overall goofy and makes class fun if he is in a good mood.

This wasnt my first class with this teacher. I had him previously for conversational ASL and it was an amazing class. I was very disappointed with my ASL 2 class. I found many accounts of him not grading all students fairly and not being open for discussion. Class was always rushed & take a long time to get started. Hed make rude comments.

Comment:

Brian is an amazing teacher who goes into great detail about the topics and really makes sure you understand. There is a lot of homework and quite a few tests but over all the course is really outstanding and helpful.

This class was such a joy. Barwise is deaf so the class is basically forced to learn signs from the get go. His teaching really engaged the class and kept us excited for what was next. I really enjoyed the hands on experience and I look forward to taking the next level of ASL with Professor Barwise.

This is not an easy class but learning a new language is always difficult. However, Mr. Barwise is a great ASL professor. He is very easy to understand and he is patient if you need him to explain multiple times. I would take him again without hesitation.

This class can be easy, you just need to pay attention. He will challenge if something you sign is not right, but he's only trying to make you better. The test are easy, and he always lets you know when things are due. He does have a bit of an attitude, which I did not like.

It's a sign language class, and I took it as a sorta foreign language credit. You need to understand that you must respect the culture as well if you intend on taking it. Plenty of help, from those in the community as well as the program itself.

Brian is an excellent teacher. He really takes the time to make sure you understand and answer all your questions. He'll let you know when you need to practice something in the Lab. Great sense of humor, sometimes dark, which I loved! Definitely looking forward to having him again as an instructor. Highly recommend taking his courses.

I absolutely LOVED this class. Took him for ASL II and can't wait to have him for ASL V in the future. Great teacher but definitely expects you to attend class and stay off your phone. Great sense of humor and a beautiful signer. Really makes learning the language fun! I totally recommend him!

I was not really interested in this class, but was curious to learn more about the Deaf community. This class did meet those qualifications, I was happy about that. We take a quiz every Monday on every chapter of the book. the teacher tends to talk more about himself than the contents of the book. I wish we were tested on his life. Over all its ok.

Awesome teacher! I miss his classes! I graduated with alot of help from Brian! He is not only a great teacher, but a caring mentor and friend! His classes are easy to pass if you show up and complete the assignments in time! He makes learning FUN!!
