Really great class on Bob Dylan and the Beatles in the 1960's! Do the readings and attend lecture--that's all you have to do to do good on the exams and papers. Very straightforward.

Professor Lloyd requires a TON of reading both through a series of assigned books and online texts, that being said the class is not difficult if you do the reading. Attendance is not mandatory, but the lectures are interesting and you will learn a lot through his informal discussions that will help you write the papers that make up the final.

Prof. Llyod is a funny guy and is passionate about history and politics. However, there is a lot of reading you have to do for this class... It's actually a bit much for a GE class. If you do read the books, attend his lectures, you can get an A. But, you have to work hard for it.

this guy is cheesy and makes you read so much. He doesnt understand that people have other classes. For a GE class this class shouldn't consume that much time

He is extremely smart and really knows his stuff. Attendance is not mandatory, but specific ideas from lecture will show up on your quizzes, so show up. There is A LOT of reading, so don't expect to pass without putting in time to read. He had 5 or 6 quizzes based off of lecture and reading worth 50 percent of your grade.

3 essays (2 shorts ones and 1 long one) and 4 quizzes (each is worth 10% of your grade). There is a lot of reading but they are interesting so they go by quickly. Not an easy A but not an impossible A either. As long as you read and attend lecture (he only posts a lecture outline which is not detailed at all so go to lecture) you will be fine.

Lloyd is a great professor! There is a lot of reading but he gives reading guides to help you. I only used those to study and did not read a thing and did well. Two 25 multiple choice and two essays. He basically gives you what to say in the essays and just read your notes and the reading guides for the scantron parts. I really enjoyed the class!

Awesome guy! Really chill and really passionate about what he teaches. A lot of reading that you need to do if you want to pass. Only grades you on the midterm and final essays with a short multiple choice test. Going to class does help but its not mandatory.

I loved his personality: laid-back, chill + humble. Course itself was a total blast. Attendance isn't mandatory, but it's recommended because it's a fun class. Once I was sick & he asked me why I was gone for that day - then he proceeded to give me my graded midterm & I cried because it was my first A. It's because of him that I'm a HIST major! :)

I transferred out of UCR, but he was probably the only professor there that prepared me for my current school (a private liberal arts college) in terms of workload. There is A LOT of reading, but it's easy, interesting, and you learn to skim for what you need for your papers. Easy grader, easy quizzes, and easy A (I went to class half the time).

Difficult class to rate. You can get a good grade by doing well on the midterm, book review, and final because they're take home. But he doesn't do power points so you have to pay attention in lectures and do the reading, which are long e-reserves and book readings. Lots of reading. The material isn't very hard though

Lectures are boring because he rambles a lot and does not provide details on the readings. There are textbook readings, online readings, and a boom for the term paper. Overall, there is a lot of reading that does not help at all. Take home easy for midterm and final, term paper, 4 quizzes, 1 gets dropped. The quizzes are very detailed.

Very cool guy but the lectures are a bit boring. There is a lot of reading that has to be done and a number of written assignments but if you need help he is extremely helpful.

Oblivious to students workload. The amount of reading we had to do each week was impossible. You'll get through it. But do not take unless you absolutely have to.

Ok, in the beginning I got super frustrated due to the tremendous amount of readings he assigned, but then the midterm and final are take home essays! there are 4 quizzes 20% total (based on the readings and the text book)this is the difficult part for me, just try to study for them. Shouldn't be too bad.

He is horrible. For a breadth class, he assigns WAY too much reading. With the chapter reading, the extra textbook readings, and many e-readings, it's just way too much too handle. If I was a history major, the workload would have been appropriate. Don't take it unless you're really interested in reading about 60 pages of world history per week.

Great Teacher!Teaches more about the culture in history rather than the facts. had him in the summer of 2011 does not use powerpoints just straight oral lectures the only thing i did not like was he would assign over 80 pages a week to read but only give us 10 multiple choice questions. there was no need to make us read that much for only 10 MP ?'s
