There have been writing assignments I put countless hours into, and I'm given a C or a D. With the same work ethic I've put in other classes, I've made As or Bs. His grading is unclear, and there is no elaboration.

Comment:

For the first 6 class periods of the semester, he read his syllabus to us WORD FOR WORD. I didn't get to college not knowing how to read. Was unclear about deadlines and discussion posts, and there was a lot of unnecessary busy work.

This guy was the worst teacher I've ever had. I have him for an online class and he is absolutely ruthless while grading. Don't take anything related to this teacher. He's obviously got a chip on his shoulder and lets it out on his students.

great professor, seems to care, gives us every chance to do extra credit, but over all this is the hardest sociology class my peers who have taken sociology before with another professor or at another college who made an A and I have ever encountered. I make As in over half of all my classes, but this class I will lucky if i come out with a C.

Others complain about the 15+ year old videos, which is true. He can ramble on and on sometimes. However, he is very helpful if you ask for help and his writing assignments truly are not too hard. Just do some extensive research, grammar-check, and cite correctly and you'll make at least a 90 on each one. He is slow about grading. And read! read!

Rambles on all class, never on task. Drags out everything. This could be an easy class but he goes way to in depth on useless stuff.

WORST CLASS EVER!!! Unless you hate yourself, I wouldn't recommend taking. In my two years of college, this is the only C I've ever had. I've also taken numerous psychology and sociology classes and made all A's in them. We only had two tests, and his lectures are so terrible. My class started out with 32 and ended up the 4. By far the worst class.

Half of the classes we would watch 45+ minute videos, sounds good, right? Not really, they were all 15 years or older videos. He gave us three tests that were 100 points a piece along with 5 different papers (16 pages in all) that were worth an overall total of 170 pts. Also, it is currently the week before finals and he has yet to post any grades.

He is very caring and very knowledgeable but the whole class in general was tough for me. The lectures were very long and super heavy taking. he makes you read your book, chapter by chapter page by page. Tests are nothing like the lectures or even relavent to was has been taught. The papers you are difficult and not much time given to complete.

I had Dr. Rivers for one of my eCore classes and it's not hard to figure out how to get a good grade. If you follow the rubrics he provides exactly you'll always get an A for discussion posts and papers, and most of the questions for the midterm and final are covered through the Blackboard virtual meetings.

I've taken Dr. Rivers twice for intro to sociology and intro to social problems in 2015 and 2016. You need to read book! C'mon, this is college people! He goes over everything in class & makes sure you understand the material! Only negative, it was the beginning of October before we had our first test. Assignments pile up towards end of semester

Tremendous guy! believe me, but honestly his methods are just really farfetched, he is extremely strict when it comes down to papers, and if you think that you can leave class early? that's a nono buddy you better advise him because then you will get a second lecture. His tests are longer than mondays. highly recommending if you love failure

I am currently taking his class on eCore, and to say the least he is a difficult grader. After putting in the time and effort and making that clear in the discussion posts, the highest I have received is an 88. The midterm was extremely hard and the study guides are not very descriptive.
