If I can still remember a profs name after 20 years have passed he's got to be good. Had Bruce at Brock Uni (Ontario) back in 1991 and he was very inspirational even while teaching a dry subject (History of Social Thought). Am now a teacher myself and often reflect back on his unique teaching style. Appreciated his energy, honesty & transparency.

he is really awful!! he will teach you 1 thing and will quiz u on a different thing. he speaks a lot and keep you the whole class. he talks a lot about things that every1 knows.

He's incredibly knowledgeable. The class is more open discussion than straight lecture. He really gets you to thinking on some of the hidden gender issues that most see as the SOP of society. You can't slack off in his class and expect an "A". Lots of outside class work to do, but you'll learn.

If you have a heavy major do NOT take his upper division classes. There's a LOT of outside classroom work, & a lot of extra $$ spent on copies, ink for printers. But, he's one of the most caring profs, a genuinely nice man. Exams - all essay. 10 Abstracts to write; 3, 2-pg reports; 1, 10-pg paper.

Worst class I ever took...He's funny and class is interesting that much is true, but then he tests like he's teaching at Harvard. Talks about his personal life WAY to much. Greatest thing about his class is the last day. Do-able but not an easy A.

friesen is great! if you have to take soc, this is your guy. he is a riot, very fun. i'm picking up a minor in this area bc his class was so great. show up everyday, read the book and do the work and you'll do well.
