Comment:

I LOVED Dr. Barfield, and I HATE biology. He is very encouraging and he wants you to understand. He recently began teaching at Santa Fe rather than UF, and he's one of best Santa Fe has. You'll have no issue as long as you participate. Barfield is very lighthearted and does a good job of keeping his class that way. Study the study questions!

Comment:

If you study the Smokin' Notes hard, you're almost guaranteed an A in the class. Go to the extra credit sessions; Barfield is pretty inconsiderate and definitely plays favorites to the pretty girls, but it's a good class to knock out your Bio GenEd. Class is based on four tests and a Bugge Faire where you dress up like a Bug. Joke Class.

yes the class is easy but the professor himself is a complete jerk. basically if you disagree then you are one of the pretty girls in his class whom he devotes all his attention to while the rest of the class can burst into flames and he won't notice a thing. you'll get the easy A but rest assured you will be **** upon in the process.

Class is very easy, I do not attend lecture and just buy and study the smoking notes. Easy A also if you just study the smoking notes you wont need to buy the book. Also you should attend the extra credit sessions and the final is to bake something shaped/related to a bug! Funny at times and seems nice

Comment:

Barfield is only teaching one more semester, and I recommend you take his course, even if you have no interest in bugs or need a bio credit. He is fantastic, managing to relate bugs to real world applications and scenarios that students will benefit from hearing. He is a great person and can help you figure out what is available for you at UF.

Barfield knows his class is easy and he does not try to pretend otherwise. The exam questions come from the study guides and a few things he tells you that you need to know during class. Make sure you go to class or you will definitely miss exam questions! He is very funny! Tests were easy, but still do extra credit when possible!

Tries to scare freshman because he doesn't want to deal with high school caca. Awesome professor, he knows its an easy class and doesn't try to pretend it isn't. Tests come straight from the study questions and offers way too many extra credit opportunities. Worth taking if you need an easy A but the actual material is pretty worthless.

Its an easy class but you can tell he is a bitter old man. Talks down to you. Obsessed with the attractive girls in the class. If you wanted to challenge your grade and were wrong he takes 10 points away! Clearly has been teaching too long and should do the world a favor and retire. One of the worst/weirdest professors at UF

Prof. Barfield doesn't care about his students. He is constantly reducing his students to make them sound like arrogant brats who have had everything handed to them. I have a job and could not attend any of the extra credit sessions, he was not understanding and rather rude.

Easy class but you just have to know a lot of facts. Here's you're guide to an A+... 1. Invest in smokin' notes 2. do at least 1 extra credit opportunity 3. read the outside readings 3 or 4 days before the exam . they are located under the syllabus section on the website 5. when taking notes in class write down only what he wants you to know!!!!

Great professor. Website tells it all. Do extra credit and you will be fine. Smokin Notes is helpful too, but you need more than that to get A's on tests, such as going to class and textbook reading. Great prof, highly recommended.

Easy class. He gives like 60 pts of extra credit. Your final is to bake a cake. Tests are quite easy. He is nice and tries to get to know his students. In order not yo get an A, you have to seriously try not to. Its nearly impossible to get anything lower than an A, especially with the extra credit. I used the book, but you don't need to.

The class was easy, but I would not recommend it. The tests are easy if you study for them (make sure you answer the questions he posts on the website). Waking up at 8 in the morning to hear him whine about pesticides every class was not worth it though.

Very nice and funny professor. Tests are fairly easy and come from the textbook questions, outside readings as well as the lectures (so it would be in your best interest to go to class). He tells you during lectures to star certain facts which make the tests near impossible to fail, assuming the leg work is done
