I took this course and loved the "show" so much I eventually took all his classes through graduate school and invited him to be my graduate advisor. "Jaws" is definitely not easy, but if you "get him" you'll learn more than just fluid mechanics. His approach ("the show") will teach you as much about life and thinking critically as fluid mechanics

This guy is brutal but excellent. If you take his class, and fail, you still walk away knowing more than many classes you can take and pass. You walk out of his class solid solid solid in the material. It can be a painful process getting there. Take him if you want to learn, and dont mind being asked tough questions, or being rigorously evaluated. One of the most valuable courses that I ever took.

Really tough professor, but if you learn to play his game you can learn so much from him. Other classes are easier after going through the gauntlet with Jankowski. Teaches you to think like an engineer better than any other professor.

Makes you learn ONLY the basic concepts, and teaches you how to think for yourself. Wonderful idea, poorly executed. He forces you to try your hardest (very good), but there's no useful feedback (very bad). Homework expectations are explained in language vague enough to make a politician jealous. I respect him, but I can't call him a good teacher.

Very demanding teacher but he really cares about the students in his class and goes out of his way to make sure you understand the material and not just memorize equations by rote. I actually enjoyed the class because it was challenging.

I am as proud of the C I received in his class as I am of any other grade I ever received in any other class. Dr. Jankowski was brutal and demanding (like John Houseman in The Paper Chase), but the lessons learned far outweigh the negatives. He actually took me to lunch long after I graduated when I sent him a letter of thanks. He's an asset to ASU

Had him for Fluid Mechanics in the '80's. I worked harder to get my grade of "D" than any class before or since. He's one of the few professors I remember, and one of the few I really respect. He once commented that the best university consists of a good instructor and a good student; all the shiny buildings are just window dressing. He's great!

I took this class in 1993. Looking back, I learned more about science and engineering in this single class than in any collection of ten other classes that I took. If you take this class, you will hate Jankowski, you will learn to fear and loathe the stack of cards (because you just KNOW that you're next), and you'll learn more than you ever have

Whaaaaa. Poor Me. I had to actually work to understand fundamental concepts. His exams actually required that I comprehend course material and he actually had the nerve to test us on comprehension instead of memorization. Stop Whining! Jaws is an asset to engineering and you were lucky to have the experience.

He uses the Socratic Method...that is that he uses name cards to call students to ask questions about untaught material, he ridicules each student even if the answer given was correct. Advice - DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR.

This guy was pure evil. I don't think he smiled the whole semester. He had these flash cards with all the students names on them. When he called on you, he asked difficult questions and really put you on the spot if you didn't know the answer. I'd sooner drop out of school than take another class with him.

His tests don't test what they teach. Jankowski ridicules students if they don't know an answer. He called one female student a "****" during class (in playful manner)
