A very intelligent and helpful professor despite the boring subject matter; he has a genuine passion about the law and his students, so don't let the course topic dissuade you.

To be frank, he is a nice man who is truly interested in the topic of public law. But his lectures are dry, dry, dry. Boring and Hard to follow. It is probably the worst course I have ever taken. Unless you like lectures without any visual aids and profs who talk for 3 hours straight, don't take his class. Exam marks were extremely low (in the 60's

Your a great teacher and your know your stuff, but your lectures are so long and dry, especially for Public law (Which in it self is dry) If you made class more interesting (IE Powerpoint, VISUAL AIDES) And not just stand in front of the class and talk for 3 hours it might make it more eaiser to understand your material!

This prof is genuinely interested in helping his students, a very nice man. He's just incredibly hard to follow, and jumps all over when discussing a topic, making it very difficult to follow his train of thought and keep track of what he's discussing. Unless you are ready to spend time with him after lecture, you'll have a hard time getting an A.

He is very detailed and articulate; he had a genuine passion for the subject matter. Provided instant and abundant help and he was always available for out of class consultations. He marks students according to their actual abilities; in other words, fairly.

Aboriginal law was the worst. It was really boring and hard to follow. Lectures are not engaging at all, a lot of people stop showing up after the first lecture. I do not recommend it at all.

Elliot is a good man. His classes are far more demanding then one would have thought. He is very into his studies and he writes your textbook. The information isnt one sided as it is pretty clear facts. Law & Aboriginal Peoples is a course that isnt dry but can be when it goes too long which it does. Eexam & essay are difficult. he is helpful though

This was the worst class I have had at Carleton. The material is one sided, no room to debate or have background information. The prof takes a seating plan every class for attendance, which he then uses to call upon students. If only the class was split into 2 1.5hrs, it would be easier. Also, more use of media would help to focus. 0/10

If Public Law doesn't interest you, you might struggle with this class. You couldn't have a better professor, however. He can't get enough of the material! He's helpful, cheerful, and a genuinely kind man. He sincerely cares about his students, and if you ask for help he will bend over backwards to give it to you. A bit dry, but a wonderful prof.

Extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Responds to emails promptly and fully. A very interesting course if Public / Administrative Law is an interest of yours. While exams do have a multiple choice component, they arenĂ¢€™t easy. Be sure to read all the whole Casebook and know the significance of every important case by heart before taking the exam.

David Elliott truly has a passion for law. Let's be honest: his lectures are dry and could use a little spice. However, he is one of the most available and helpful professors outside of the classrooom. He wants his students to do well! If you are planning to attend law school, stay on his good side, listen and you will get a stellar reference.

Elliott is a great professor who is extreemly into the material. He really enjoys questions and replies to emails very thoroughly. This year exams were a choice of either multiple choice or essay. If you always chose the MC option you'd have to do 110 MC questions and one essay all year. He loves 'all of the above' answers!

Really hard course but interesting. Unfortunately, the material is pretty one sided. The class does not consider the reality behind the treatment of Aboriginal People in this country. The course gives the impression that the CDN Gov't is helping Natives but doesn't represent enough of the negative effects on First Nations.

Comment:
David Elliott really does have a zeal for his subjects that are contageous if you bother to take an interest. I think his questions of the class really brighten up a dull lecture, but they can sidetrack the course. He is really helpful outside of the class with reading materials, or answering questions. I'd say he's one of the good ones.

Excellent professor. Great knowledge of administrative law and comparative studies. Very helpful with students and always willing to spend time with explanations, assistance with papers, and other student requests. Very impressed with the class... wish he hadn't been away on sabbatical when I took Law 3506.

Thru no fault of his own, the material is boring, but he tries so hard and he's the sweetest man on the planet. He's nice, approachable, tries so hard to make jokes, and you can see that he wants SOO badly for his students to do well. If you have to take Public law, take it with him for sure.
