Comment:
Dr. David Thomas is the only Middle Eastern Islamic Scholar on RIC campus. He really cares for his students, and has a classroom free from fear. He is a credit to his profession and his college. I had him for 2 courses and found him easy-going, and never put any student down. He prefers all of his students to show up, and yet he does not find fault

Comment:
Dr. Thomas is older and talks slower than Maester Pycelle now but is a wealth of information. He's aged quite a bit the past half dozen years so its sad to see him get old fast. Still a fun hybrid class that is mostly done online at this point. Exams are really not that difficult and the weekly precis (chapter review) is fairly straightforward.

Do not go to class! Lectures are boring and have nothing to do with the material. He takes weeks to grade assignments and doesn't respond to e-mails. "Quizzes" are really exams, and he puts questions from the wrong chapters on them, despite being told repeatedly. Forgets anything he's told you, so pay close attention to your grade.

The worst class I've ever taken. Asks the same thing during every lecture and quizzestests have nothing to do with what was "taught" in class. Extremely tough grader and gives almost no feedback. You'll spend the whole semester teaching yourself and trying to answer his nonsense questions. Avoid at all costs!

professor thomas sucks! he gives homework and never grades them. we are about to be done with this semester in a week and not one homework has been graded. he is not clear and is very rude! he changes everything in the last minute and his lectures are boring. he makes you want to get up and leave class. THIS CLASS IN GENERAL IS JUST BAD!

This class is horrible. I do not recommend it to anyone. I took it as a gen. ed. thinking that it would be an easy class... There are précis assignments every week that he expects you to do but doesn't grade till end of semester. Lectures are pointless, doesn't even talk about material on the tests. Tests are long and ridiculous.

I took a history course from him online. There is so much work to do, and he waits last minute to grade. However, he does know his stuff and can be helpful. I just felt that the class was very overwhelming and boring

I don't know why everyone's giving this guy great ratings. Don't take an "80%" online class and actually expect it to be 80% online. He makes you come in for everything, including presentations and exams. What's the point of an ONLINE class then?! Exams are ridiculous and he's rude. Don't bother trying to ask him a question, he wont understand.

Hoja is quite simply the man! As both my professor and adviser he was beyond accommodating and helpful, and displays a genuine interest in his students. His lectures are interesting, and his knowledge on the subject is unmatched by any. Papers in non seminars are clear and easy, as are tests. If you have the chance to take his class DO IT.

The closest thing to a mentor I've ever had. Extremely passionate.about his subject i.e. Islamic History/Middle East Politics. He should've spent his career at an Ivy League College or at least somewhere with a more enlightened/intellectually engaged student body than "Vode Island College." He was of a higher caliber than the average RIC professor.

Very intelligent, quizzes are pointless (only multiple choice tests I have had for a history course), lecture interest varies widely on whether or not you are interested in that particular aspect. Overall I recommend him and this course to satisfy the Non-western history course for history majors.

Took him for Muslim World from 1800-Present. Extremely knowledgeable. Gives compelling analysis. Essays are a bit challenging, but interesting. Quizzes are kind of lame in that they're just memorization. Don't take him for an easy A, take him for a challenging A if you want to learn a TON about Islam/Islamic history.

The worst professor I've ever had. The quizs consists of short answers and mc and he gives you study guides. However, you are not allowed to choose so basically, you must memorizes 60 terms and events before the quiz. The final is even worst. It consists of just essays. & this is suppose to be a freshman level class. Stay away from him.

I'm not a history major but I didn't think he was a good teacher. The test questions were based neither from the notes nor the text. Where did he get the test questions from?? He loves his subject and seems like a nice guy. He was very helpful to me when I planned a memorial service for the victims of the 9/11 attacks.
