Comment:

Vella can appear a little reserved and cautious but once you get pass that he is the most gentle, kind, sincere math professor I've ever seen Skidmore have. Extra homework is assigned for your benefit to practice and its not graded - only one half is collected. I showed him the MU puzzle from Godel Escher Bach and he solved it like it was nothing.

Comment:

Very very hard intro class. I would highly not recommend this class. Vella is also very opinionated and tends to let politics slide into his (math) class. While I got an A in the class, it was a grueling couple of months.

Vella is one of my favorite math professors. He's a chalkboard hero. Definitely don't slack on the note taking. I have opted into the 8:40 section of a class just to take it with Vella. It's worth it. He's a double threat with the great explanations and attainable A's.

Vella is an amusing and kind professor, also extremely intelligent. He knows his stuff and isn't afraid to share his knowledge, especially when asked. He becomes your best resource. Even though I found myself dozing off in class sometimes, he does try his hardest to keep us alert. Also, homework was always doable. Great man! :]

Great professor, incredibly intelligent. He does a lot of board work and expects you to follow along. If you have trouble, he is extremely helpful. I highly recommend taking his classes.

He's very good at explaining things one-on-one, but his lectures were mad boring. Calc 1 is a horrible class in general since half the class has already taken calc and the other half hasn't, so everyone is either bored or clueless.

This class was great(serious games). Practically no homework, take home midterm, open note and book final. Guranteed A if you aren't a complete idiot and the material was interesting.
