he gives good feedback and has a very clear criteria! Kind of weird and rude in a way but great teacher. makes you work for a good grade so dont just BS it. class and assignments werent all that difficult just what u would expect from an English class so I would take again

Comment:

This class was very helpful. I for one am not a good essay writer so his feedback helped me grow as a writer. Sometimes he was unorganized on his thoughts and not as considerate of people's feelings but overall noted my strengths and helped with my few weaker points. Attendance is not mandatory but you will not pass if you don't go.

Mr. Hackelton is a hilarious person. He always wants the grade to be objective. Therefore, he gave me C on every paper. If you don't want your transcript to be ruined, stay away from him. If you want to be serious with writing, take him.

Honestly such a hard grader, wouldnt recommend taking this class unless you feel you are outstanding at writing essays. Overall he gives good feedback on papers but grades hard. You will definitely benefit from taking this class. He might seem intimidating but just ask for help if you need it. No much hw just essays. Good luck :)

Mr. Hackelton is pretty good no lie. Can seem like a jerk sometimes but he really just does that to help you out and also to realize that sometimes the world is full of jerks. Really funny during class.

Prof. Hackelton is not a bad teacher, although he can be condescending at times, he overall doesn't give a hard class, I had probably 19 absences in total 1&2 semester and still managed to pass, I gave very little effort and passed with a C I'm confident that if I had given some thought and tried a little harder I definitely could've gotten an A.

Devon Hackelton is nothing but a tenured wash-up who has nothing better to do than bully. Almost every time I asked him a question, he responded with a snarky remark and made sure that the ENTIRE class heard. This made it very difficult for me to ask for any help from him. Would not recommend

Hackleton is a hard professor that will get you to better your English writing skills. He can be a bit rough around the edges but actually go to him for help and you will do better on your essays. I went to office hour and it was beneficial and it showed in my grade. Expect to write and read a lot but in the end you will learn a lot. Take Hackelton

Hackelton's class was not a bad decision to take in my experience, his class is organized and he gives you all the information needed for every paper, exam etc. He is not a hard grader by any means but will give you a bad grade if you don't try. I would say his class is ran in a professional manner and I don't have anything bad or negative to say.

Bring a pillow to class because this class is boring! Not only that but it will be a lot of reading. 3 in class essays & 1 out of class. All based on books he assigns. He also frequently does very detailed pop quizzes on the book so do the reading! He talks the whole lecture and often put students on blasts, almost judging their answers negatively

Hard teacher and even if you work for your grade you will not get what you deserve. A lot of reading and random quizzes on the books. Your grade is mainly based on in class essays and he grades very hard.

Hackelton is cool. He seems scary but after you talk to him once it gets easier. It seems like he doesn't care but somewhere deep inside he does. ENG 109 has more out of class essays (4) than ENG 108 (2). I felt like I never got a break bc as soon as we turned one in we got another but essays were almost our only hw. 9/10 recommend this class!!

Hackelton can be intimidating but after a while you get used to him. He looks a little "out of it" but is nice & willing to help. He gives good writing advice & I feel like I actually learned a few things. 2 out of class essays, 3 in class essays. NFG book isn't really useful but some of the in class essay questions come from it so you do need it.

Hackelton is great and is definitely funny. The amount of work assigned isn't a lot and it's definitely manageable. There's 4 papers (1 in-class) and we read one book. Pay attention, ask questions, and do your best! He won't hand you an 'A', but he won't make it impossible either. You will definitely end with the grade you want.

Hackelton is an awesome professor. He likes to add some humor into his lectures which makes a literature class bearable. If you are looking for an easy A, don't take him. There was 4 essays total with reading logs through blackboard. He grades tough and his expectations grow as the class progresses. The more effort you put in, the better your grade

Professor Hackelton is hilarious! I laughed in every single lecture. He's a great professor and a tough grader. We read three books that quarter and wrote an essay for each one. He grades the essays toughly but has a "essay workshop" day where class isn't necessary and he will read your essay and tell you exactly what it needs so you can edit it before turning it in the next class day. Definitely recommend taking him. If you're not going to read, you won't pass.
