Comment:
While the topic of aesthetic philosophy is interesting and the readings he connected us with were informative, Keefer himself is a horrible professor. He doesn't engage with the class very much and slowly everyone checks out. He's also problematic in a lot of different ways. I don't recommend any of his classes.

Comment:
Unfortunately Don is the worst professor Ive studied under at RISD. He is extremely disorganized, his assignments are unclear, and his lectures are long-winded and incoherent. He spends the majority of class time drawing indecipherable diagrams and asking questions that he immediately answers leaving little opportunity for student involvement.

Comment:
He's a nice guy, but you really need to pay attention to his lectures in order to understand in his class. And this sometimes can be difficult because he talks in a roundabout manner. Very knowledgeable and passionate about his subject, but not the greatest with straightforward explaining. Very punny.

Comment:
I learned a lot of philosophy from Keefer's assigned readings but nothing at all from his class. He assigned a handful of medium-length essays that he graded extremely harshly. Classes turned into everyone doing something on their computers or in their sketchbooks while Keefer lectures unengagingly in the background to himself.

Comment:
Harsh grader, and makes philosophy incredibly boring. His comments on papers are unclear, and his lectures in class are also incredibly unclear. It is really difficult to pay attention/follow him in class. Nice guy, not a good teacher. 4 papers all year and don't even read real philosophy texts just stupid dialogues.

Comment:
Will make unclear diagrams on the board during discussions that become unreadable if you haven't been paying attention for the past 2 seconds. Harsh grader, but seems to care about student growth. Occasionally will watch episodes of X files and Star Trek, which are a nice break.

I love philosophy but Don Keefer managed to make it the most boring class I've ever taken. He sometimes assigns take home essays as a part of exams but he won't give the question to you until the day before it's due. He often talks down to the class and has no problem failing people on essays and exams. TERRIBLE CLASS.

this class was painful. DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH KEEFER. worst class experience at risd so far beyond a doubt. boring, effort has nothing to do with grades, redundant and frustratingly pointless

If you do not participate, you do not stand a chance. A lot of reading. Grades papers as if it was an english teacher, so grammar really matters. I found the best conversations were one on one after class.

DK is truly a beacon of hope for all those who grew up watching and emulating Star Trek, theorizing on the hotness of Agent Scully, listening to Jethro Tull, pegrolling their stonewashed jeans, or just being akward! Love him!
