Professor Allan was amazing! He teaches in a way that helps you understand the material while you are having fun at the same time. He gives a lot of extra credit which can bring you up two letter grades if you are struggling. Take his class!!

Comment:

He's perfected teaching methods that help material stick, especially with the more overwhelming subjects covered. You'll have to put in the work and show up to class, but HE OFFERS LOADS OF EXTRA CREDIT. The class is structured to be extremely fair to students, so if you need to fulfill an IGETC requirement, TAKE HIM!!!

Class is easy if you come to class every time and do the extra credit. Exams can be challenging, but the review games are useful. Lab practicums are hard, but if you know the practice practi****you will do fine. Lectures can be boring, but to get a good grade you need to attend. Do all the extra credit.

Good professor. Lab every day, so attend class. 65% and up= C, so it's a science class you can automatically pass for IGETC. Lab Practicums are kind of challenging. Boring class. Gives some extra credit opportunities.

I don't have a mind for science, but I loved taking Prof. Allan's class. He gave many extra credit opportunities and was sure to keep things interesting by taking the class outside of the classrooms for field trips on and off campus. Sweet professor, study and you should do fine.

i went to one class and then dropped. he started out talking about scientific fact vs. theory and then launched into a whole discussion about how global warming was FACT...not that i don't feel that global warming is a problem, it just wasn't relevant to the class at all and i don't like ideology shoved down my throat by teachers.

Professor Allan was an excellent professor. He had a very unique style of teaching but he manage to help me grasp and understand even the most difficult material. I highly recommend that you take his course. Just be sure to do all of your labs and make it to class on time for the quiz believe me they help.

To the person below me, you are so wrong. I did every lab, got "C"s and "D"s on the tests and missed two classes and still came out of the class with a "B", if you got a "C" all I can say is there is something wrong with you. To everyone else, take this class if you need a "B" because it is guaranteed, otherwise take someone else.

Prof. Allan is a gem of a professor. He uses all sorts of ways and materials/media/ect to help his students grasp difficult info. I HIGHLY reccomend his class, altho, it is not easy. He offers a handful of xtra crdt and stays to answer questions. He is very inspiring!!

This class was great. If you show up everyday, and write down everything he says, you'll do very well. If you're interested in science/BOT, you'll have the advantage over other students. I can't recall studying more than 2 hours a week out of class, and I got an 'A.' A word of advice, he'll usually go over something 2-3 times that is on the test.

If you are very interested in Botany, Mr. Allan is a great teacher to learn from. The class is very challenging, but he gives you tons of opportunities to do well and get a good grade. You get what you put into this class. He plays many games to help you learn and has a very fresh aproach on teaching his subject. I'm really enjoying his class.

I am in his botany 1 class right now and it is something else. He is a very nice guy, however, if you miss one day you miss 20 points pretty much, lab everyday, and there are 3 tests and a final, the problem is each test is like a final, 100 questions. Unless you can devote all your time to this class, pick someone else.

The class was a pain in the butt because we had classes all over the place. If you don't have a car don't take this class it was way too much trouble. I love the material. I strongly disliked the vegan hippinazi vibe. Professor Allen is very nice but criptic ie.If you complain he will ask you if you want to drop.

Hard to believe Doug is still teaching. I took his class about 25 years ago. Great class, great teacher. I still like Bio and the Santa Monica Mountains. The Ecology Club was awesome!

Allan is such a dork. BUT his enthusiasm rubbed off on me. There is so much information in the class; to pass without studying would be nearly impossible. Field botony seems like it would be a cool class too and more fun out in the hills looking at plants. He helps you get a good grade if you are persistant about wanting to do well.
