I graduated with my nose in the dirt. I barely made it. I don't remember much, but I remember some things from Doug. We didn't know each other that well (I was in the bottom rung of the MCLA theatre hierarchy), but I felt like I got it. Other people would complain about his tough love, but that's how I could understand that he cared.

Doug is a sassy man. He means well and really has a desire to share his somewhat outdated knowledge of theatre. As a director, his style reflects his experience working with little money with the specific goal of providing entertainment. Unfortunately his style isn't exactly entertaining in a current sense. You will learn a lot, though

Doug requires a lot from you but he knows what he is talking about. I like him a lot and his diresting style which many people have a problem with, I do not. He will miss almost 1/2 the classes which is not a good thing but when he is there you learn a lot.

Do your work, show up to class, but expect him to be absent 1/4-1/2 of the time. Knows his AM stuff. As a director, his style either works for you or doesn't. He's a great advisor - if you do your part, he'll do his to get you out in four years.

Doug is a pretty good teacher when he shows up for class, though some classes seem a bit like a waste. As a director, one could go either way, you either love him or you hate him. He's very helpful and honest if you ask his advice.

Doug very direct and straightforward about the world of theater outside of college. He puts the fear of never finding work in you which is good because lets face it.. most FPA majors end up working 9-5 desk jobs eventually anyway. Great prof to learn from

OMG, this course sucks. Its not nessarily hard but the amount of papers you have to write sucks. Every theatre major has to take it so there is no way around it but a bit of advice, work on the critiques a few DAYS before they're due. Not the night before
