Comment:

Really great guy, and passionate about his field. His exams are pretty tough, but he curves, and as long as you do all the labs and weekly online quizzes you'll definitely pass. He also has a field trip at the end of the semester, which was surprisingly fun (its also worth a sizable chunk of your grade, but its pretty easy to do good on it).

Great guy. It is a hard class, lowkey. But if you do weekly reading quizzes and labs, then your good. Mineral test kinda hard lowkey. Make sure you check out mineral set to study before. The field trip is lowkey fun and interesting. Pay attention during labs.

Comment:

Given's class isn't easy , but he's a great guy. Even if you do poorly on your tests, as long as you do your labs, and weekly reading quizzes you'll probably pass. He also has a field trip that's worth a sizable chunk of your grade, and it ended up being one of my favorite parts of the class.

Comment:

I took his class for Fall Semester 2017. He is an outstanding guy and very experienced in his field. He made geology interesting for me and I am a Political Science major. It's pretty cool if you really pay attention and take time to learn. I could have given it a little more effort and got an A but I had a lot of things going on that semester.

The mineral test is open book/notes but try to review before hand! The midterm and final are hard, but if you study you should get a good grade. The first page of the final is basically a gimme (he uses the same question from the midterm). Its cumulative! Show up to class and take good notes, that will help you study for the exams.

Given is knowledgable and informative in his lectures. Labs are generally pretty easy. Hw is just online quizzes which are easy too. 1 midterm, 1 exam, and final. Pay attention in lecture, that's what you'll be tested on. Exams are kinda hard. There's also a mandatory field trip at the end of the semester (on a Saturday). Overall pretty chill class

Professor Given is funny, witty, and an all around awesome scientist who made Geology interesting to me. The midterm and final are difficult, but if you put effort in doing the weekly quizzes and applying concepts you learned in your lab, you will do well. When the San Andreas fault inevitably slips, you want to be around him for comfort.

He's like an expert geologist, and he really knows what he's talking about, which is very helpful. He's a pretty nice guy too, but dry sense of humor. As long as you do the work, you'll pass.

Initially thought his class was way too easy and would recommend specifically to non-science majors, but it turns out he's just a great teacher who I recommend to all. No boring powerpoint lecturZzz. Bonus: improved drawing. Light homework, online quizzes. Doesn't assign and require you to bring in a (pointless) earthquake kit or presentations.

Best professor i have taken so far at PCC. Everything is explained clearly. Take notes every class, those notes are the material that will be on the tests. Field trip was a great expirience. Mr. Givens is a teacher who loves teaching.

Great professor who's ecstatic about lecturing and providing great drawings of what is needed to learn. Yet he's extremely tough on grading, tests are difficult, and final as well. On the plus side he's willing to curve, give extra credit, and has a fun field trip.

Pretty Easy/fun Class!! It doesnt matter if u fail the quizes and midterm/final/mineral exam. Just do ALL of your LABS and ONLINE QUIZES and show up and take notes = easy B. MAKE SURE YOU GO ON THE FIELD TRIP its mandatory if u want to pass + its SUPER FUN!! Pretty cool teacher...

It is easy to get a B in his class as long as you do all the work and take good notes. Attendance is key especially when the book is hardly necessary for his class. He is really helpful and there is hardly any work, except for the weekly labs and online quizzes. The field trip at the end of the semester was a really fun experience. Take this class!

This guy is pretty damn into what he teaches. Hes pretty easy and gives some extra credit. Basically if you do the work (which really isn't that hard) but do terrible on the tests, you can still do great in the class. You'd have to be lazy to get below a B. Also he curves your final grade in the class so like 85%+ for example is an A.

Great guy. Be prepared to take notes and lots of them. Test are all from you notes so be precise. He is very helpfull and just loves what he teaches. Get involved with the class. It helps. Highly recommended.

he is very organized and makes everything visual.. he'll draw basically what is going on underneath the earth's surface.. his tests are not easy but it's not hard neither.
