Comment:

Dr. Sparks is the best teacher that Appalachian offers. She doesn't use a textbook and her lectures are so funny and interesting. She used to do street research on crime and she uses those examples to spice up the lecture. She usually lets you leave a little early, she brings her dog to class, and if you don't take notes you will fail.

Comment:

Dr. Sparks is a very good professor. Her lectures are different than others. She doesn't use powerpoint instead, you take notes from what she says. Her exams are difficult, but if you take detailed notes then you won't have an issue. Also, she will tell you if you have enough notes to study from for the exam, so she will help you out.

Dr. Sparks is the best professor I've had at App so far. She genuinely cares for her students and even puts her cell phone number on the syllabus if you ever need her for anything class related or not. Only 3 exams and attendance make up the grade. Traditional lecture style which was an adjustment for me, so show up to every class!

She has a lot of great stories and is funny. However; there is only 3 test & 1 paper. The test are ridiculously hard and you need to show up in class everyday. The notes come from what she say's in class (no powerpoint).

Hardest class of my college career. You ask her a question and she says tough luck. She's a fantastic woman with great stories, but she lacks teaching/communication skills. She definitely knows what she's talking about but doesn't get it across to students very well. Hard tests, which are all multiple choice. 3 test grades and 1 paper in total.

took her for theories, really great teacher. she knows what she's talking about and she is hilarious. you will learn a lot and as long as you take good notes and study a little bit you will do fine on the tests. 3 tests, one paper. definitely worth taking.

You are responsible for everything that she says as well as thinks. She doesn't grade like most instructors do, so be careful especially with essay questions. As long as you record the lecture and then read as much as you can on the internet and study your notes religiously, you should be fine.

Great Prof. Ignore all of the dumb comments about her being "hard core from FSU"-yes she worked there, but says she hated it there (who can blame her?). The tests are hard if you don't know anything about CJ or dont take notes. GREAT PROF! DEF TAKE HER IF YOU CAN!

Loved her class! She's very opinionated and down to earth and her classes are interesting and fun. Tests are straight from lecture, she doesn't use the book at all so take good notes. Tests are also pretty challenging and can be hard, just memorize your notes. Doesn't take attendance but she knows who shows up and who doesn't. I'd take her again!

she got really sick in our class after the first 2 weeks so i didn't get as much of her i would have liked. she seemed extremely enthused and intelligent over her subject, and had actually lived with criminals so she knew what she was talking about. the 1 test we did have was pretty easy, as long as you take notes (which means showing up)
