Comment:

The class was so good we decided to have a symposium. It was awesome, just like Erin. She thinks outside the institutional framework and demands that you challenge your assumptions. Class discussions are class led, she doesn't lecture - she dialogues. Highly educated and experienced and approaches class - and life- with humility & grace.

Erin is AMAZING! She was my favourite professor, and is one of the most inspirational individuals I've met. Extremely knowledgeable, sharp, and kind. Great at explaining issues from various perspectives, as well as facilitating the discussion. Makes students think critically about issues from different lenses. I always looked forward to her class!

Erin is, quite simply, one of the best professors you will ever have. She's the type of person for whom our entire seminar class threw in and bought a thank you gift. I could list of a whole bunch of positive adjectives, but the simple point is that Erin made this class the highlight of the week, and the best course most of us ever took at UBC.

Comment:

One of the best profs I've had at UBC. The level of analysis is high, she challenges you every class, and the readings are all pretty interesting (and free). The course focuses mainly on northern Uganda, which allows you to gain a deep understanding of the conflict there. Class average was an 86. Highly recommended!

Pretty much the most inspiring and engaging prof I've ever had. Amazing selection of readings, awesome safe collaborative learning setting. Inspires me to think outside of the realms that I've always engaged in. Is compelling, articulate, pretty much amazing, super fun. Makes me WANT to read, ponder and critique every word of every article.

Baines is the freshest face in a talent-rich poli sci department. Her classes are famous for being fun, engaging studies of issues that really matter in world politics. She is a little crazy, but in a good way. Ive taken 2 of her classes, both were great
