Great language teaching is rare. I've studied a number of languages. For a college curriculum she's one of the best I've studied with. Her curriculum is based on the books she uses. The best supplement for those who want to speak fast though is Pimsluer language series. It's a much better use of your language lab time.

she's a very nice and animated teacher. u will be very happy to join all of her class because she is super funny!! Just do all the homework she gave u then u will understand everything in the book and get good grade in the tests. it will not very hard to get A

Comment:

I would recommend Grant-sensei to anyone. She's a really great teacher and it was awesome learning Japanese from her. Attendance is mandatory, if you don't go you'll be lost the next day! Also the text book is mandatory, everything you'll learn will be from the text. She's very approachable and is willing to find different ways to help students.

If you want to learn the Japanese, you must take Grant Sensei's class. Be ready to speak because she will ask anyone to speak especially for the ones who do not pay attention. I cannot emphasize this enough - read and practice for at least 2 hours each day or more to keep up with the material. You will fall behind quickly if you miss her class.

She is a good teacher. There is a lot of material covered and she will not be afraid to call you out if you are not paying attention. The only thing that annoyed me a bit is that sometimes she forgets stuff that she taught in JAPA3 or 2 so she talks about stuff we haven't learned yet. Do not take this class if all you want is an easy A!

She seems like she want to teach. She will have you speak in class and by drills. She is fair, not too harsh or a pushover. Those who complain about her either don't show up to class or do their homework. Don't expect learning to be easy. You got to work for it.

I am the kind of person who studies Japanese all day long, so I was looking forward to a challenge. Unfortunately, I spent the entire semester confused. She teaches in Japanese mainly, which is a good thing, except for the fact that nobody ever knows what she is talking about. I love Japanese, but this class made learning it seem like a chore.

Her class is SUPER easy if you study. Studying Japanese is all about memorization, so if you don't, you won't get a good grade. She will always help you if you ask, and she's not strict at all! Just be respectful. She comes in not always on time because she teaches other classes. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

She's my teacher from Japanese 1-4. It seems like she's harder than the other Japanese teachers. I have trouble understanding some of her lectures b/c it's all in Japanese. But you can ask her anytime and she'll help you out. Overall she's a great teacher.She's animated ^_^..pretty (hehe), and friendly.

her class is very hard,always ask the students some questions in japanese which they don't know how to answer....She thought everybody can speak japanese as well as her! Always don't understand what she is talking about...you can see many students look confused in her class...she did quite a lot prepare before class but it seems not useful at all

A thoroughly engaging, professional and gifted teacher. She loves to teach, and she makes the class entertaining and informative. Her classes are challenging but she does her best to make sure everyone understands and is always willing to meet students to discuss more difficult issues during her office hours. A great teacher.

This instructor is excellent! She is from Japan but is married to an American so she has real insight into the culture and can explain it well. She is so funny and even though I took the class late at night, I stayed engaged the entire time (not something that happens often to me). Just be sure to participate and you'll do great!

Comment:

Grant-sensei is the best Japanese teacher in the department IMHO. She's very helpful, and always willing to help out and she tries to clarify every little thing that seems confusing. She would also explain the cultural usage of expressions, not just the literal meaning. She's very animated, and very supportive. Highly recommanded!
