Prof. Jimenez-Belmonte does not disappoint! He is an AMAZING teacher that genuinely wants to help you succeed!! As long as you participate, do the weekly readings, and respect his time, you will do great. One group presentation, 6-7 one-page papers, and a 7-page paper (which he can gladly help you with if you approach him on time) HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

He is a GREAT teacher!!!! You NEED to participate or you wont do well but thats because its a class where you are supposed to be not only reading and writing the language but speaking it as well. My Spanish definitely improved a lot although I had to put a lot of work into the class which meant spending 2 hours on the homework some nights.

Comment:

Profesor Belmonte is very caring and accessible outside of class- he always offers to read drafts of writing assignments which is great because they're a large component of the grade. He is friendly and strongly encourages students to participate in class. He is very open-minded and supports alternate interpretations. He could be very funny.

Javier is the best. He really cares about his students, and genuinely wants everyone to do well. His office hours are really helpful, and he will gladly look over drafts before papers are due. He gives a lot of reading and since participation is important, there's really no avoiding them. But, he is an easy essay grader and is so sweet. Recommend!

Best professor I have ever had. You would be missing out as a Spanish major or minor and not taking Prof. Belmonte. He is so sweet and caring, and encourages participation. I would recommend to anyone taking Spanish. Cannot wait to take him again!

If you can only take one professor while at college, let it be Javier. He is so sweet and patient. The material has the potential to be boring but he makes class incredibly interesting. Before him, I found Spanish intimidating but now I feel comfortable. Only 3 short essays and one long essay but other than that the only homework is reading.

He is okay, not as hot as everyone states he is in the past reviews. He is a tough grader and if you are a native speaker in the class, I think he even grades you a bit harsher compared to the rest of the students who aren't. Class was okay but I wouldn't take him again.

The best Spanish professor on campus; so caring and nice, and really tries to get to know his students. There is a lot of reading for class, and you have to do it in order to participate (which counts a lot), but it's entirely worth it. You learn a lot and gain a great understanding of how to write and read in Spanish. Highly recommended.

Javier is the best teacher I've had at Fordham. He assigns A LOT of homework, and expects active participation, but you will get so much out of his classes if you put in the work. I almost dropped my Spanish minor sophomore year, and now I'm graduating with a Spanish Major. I genuinely think that's because of him.

Highly recommend taking at least one of his classes. Engaging and really nice. Really tries to get to know each of his students, and he is unbelievably intelligent. Can be a bit of a harsh grader, but always available for help on essays.

Best professor I've had at Fordham. Excellent readings which are explained clearly. Nicest man in the department, and takes great interest in his students. Approachable, great feedback on papers, and always around to help. Highly recommended.

In my opinion, Javier is exactly what a professor should be. He challenges you but he's also very nice and wants to help you learn. As a result you learn more than you ever thought you could. He is always ready and willing to help in and outside of class. He also is a pretty generous grader. I've taken him twice and I would highly recommend him!

Really nice professor and really, really helpful. Requires spanish to be spoken 100% of the time but is very understanding if you make a mistake. Made a core requirement class fun to be in. Definitely take if you have the opportunity.

LOVE HIM! Great teacher, lenient grader, makes sure that you understand him. Not a difficult class, and very enjoyable. Go to office hours- he bends over backwards to help. Not to mention SMOKIN' and from Espana. TAKE HIM!!!
