Gary gives his students a lot of leeway. If you don't want to come to lecture or do homework, you won't be penalized. That said, go to lecture and do your homework. Lectures are interesting, and what you need to know is laid out clearly. Treat his class with the respect a 200 level science class deserves and you will learn a lot about chemistry.

This class was lecture heavy, but Gary makes it interesting and accessible. He isn't super easy to track down outside of class, but he is really nice and willing to work with you. If you need really structured classes, he may not be the right prof for you. Lab with Gary was gr8

Great guy, cares about your grade and how youre doing in the class. Amazing lectures which are always humorous in some way and will keep you awake. Gary relates chemistry to the real world in ways that make it much easier to remember, and he solidified my desire to be a chem major. Definitely recommend him!

Love this guy. He relates chemistry to the real world and makes it fun. He still expects you to know the material for the tests, which isn't always the focus of lecture, but that doesn't bother me, as attendance is not mandatory, unlike Brooke's class where she makes something due every day so you have to show up or lose participation points.

Take Brooke's if you're looking for a class to be just a class; take Gary if you're wanting a conversation. He's a comedic guy... not purposely, but simply a realist viewing the world. He's passionate, which makes the learning a tad lighter. He is also lazy. Feedback is only given if you make the effort to get it. Great class. A lotta try-hards.

Great lecturer, he'll keep you engaged with well thought out and hilarious analogies. He compares chemical concepts to easy to understand real-life ideas. Make sure you solidify your understanding with the book work and Smartwork, as he'll mostly cover the basic concepts more than the nitty-gritty. He gives out good grades on labs easily as well.

Took 221, 222 and 223 with Gary. Very laid back, enjoyable lectures. Recommend using lecture to get a basic understanding and then spending LOTS of time locking in the material outside of class. If you enjoy sarcasm and a dark dose of optimism, he's your guy!

Hilarious professor! His lectures are full of information and his stories/tangents are great. (side note: always write down the tangents he puts on the board cause it'll likely be on the test). A very enjoyable class overall!

Laid back, funny guy. Entertaining lectures! Gary uses humor and real world scenarios to help make the material more understandable and fun. He gives you the option to skip the homework, but I'd recommend doing it anyway. He's sometimes a little unclear, and doesn't cover every detail in lecture, so practicing with the homework was helpful.

I have taken Gary for the entire sequence this year. I must say that he is the best of the chem teachers at LCC. With hilarious yet interesting lectures, you learn so much about chemistry. He makes the subject so much fun. He's not easy but I'd say he's fair. You have to put work into the classes but they're not too bad. Take chem from Gary!

When into this class not expecting to work to hard, this class is great but you need to put some effort in. I highly suggest buying smart works alot with the text book. He gives great practice test about a week before the exams but the smart works is what really helps. He makes a two hour lecture fun and engaging.

Gary is awesome! His lectures are different from any other instructor that I have ever taken, in a good way. He keeps the atmosphere loose and relaxed (with constant cursing and jokes). I really enjoyed him, and I will definitely be attempting to take 222 and 223 from him next year. The material is hard, and requires hours and hours per week for A.

Gary has been teaching Chemistry for several decades and he knows his stuff. He will help you learn if you're self motivated. However, don't expect to learn everything you need to know just by listening to lecture. Reading the book thoroughly is THE ONLY WAY you will pass. Also, if you don't care for bitter sarcasm, take a different teacher.

Gary is probably my favorite professor at Lane. He understands the topic like the back of his hand and makes it make sense, all with a great sense of humor. However, the class was still very difficult and I was wondering if I'd pass multiple times. Tests are hard and final is cumulative. Not a class to be taken casually.

Great person, terrible teacher. Lectures rambled on and the only notes put on the board were confusing pictures that only muddied understanding of the topic. Often stopped mid sentence to engage in banter with students and rarely left opportunity for ?'s. Only referenced book on tests. If you're not good at chemistry, take Brooke's class instead.

I basically did not know anything about chemistry when I started Gary's series of Gen chem. Not recommended by way. I worked hard, went to all classes and labs, loved his clear descriptions and stories to cement ideas. It is a very hard series . Go to office hours, attend, ask questions and read your text! Gary has great "magic" but you MUST work
