Gary Zabel cares tremendously about his students. He goes out of the way to be accomadating to students. A terrible family crisis was going on the semester that I had his class, and he was totally supportive and understanding. He has a deep knowledge of the subject material and explains it well! The best prof!

Awesome awesome guy! Told me the best piece of advice, and let me in on a certain truth: All academics are cowards. is what he said I learned sooo much just about LIFE in his class; and boy did he broaden my horizons!! Take care all!

All he does is TALK! Lectures are so boring. He makes it clear he is a liberal and he doesn't let anyone else talk about their opinions unless they agree with him. I had to present in his class, and he shut all of my points down because he disagreed. In Phil 108,- he doesnt teach ANYTHING the course was supposed to be about.

This guy is great. EXTREMELY knowledgeable and truly cares and believes in what he teaches. His tests are papers and he doesn't grade too harshly. He's funny and personable and just an overall good guy. No textbook and no homework except for reading every once in a while.

Zabel is amazing. Take a class with him if you get the option to. He is really into Marx, but that doesn't stop him from knowing about everything else! He is a fountain of knowledge and has some of the best jokes. Learned more from his class than any other class at UMass!

Professor Gary Zabel, Knows his stuff when it comes to philosophy. You need to attend class in order to get a clearer understanding of the readings. NO TEXTBOOK! 2 papers, so make sure you read what he assigns. He is very caring towards his students. The biggest suggestion I would say is Make sure you are in class!

LOVED HIM! Such a great professor. He incorporates such clever and insightful remarks witin the class modules. Only 2 papers, one midterm and one final, which require you to understand the topic and express your views on it. The papers were tough but if you take your time to understand there's no way you cant get an A. ALL HAIL ZABEL!

Professor Zabel was a great teacher to have! He was an easy going, very knowledgable guy. No textbooks needed, everything is on his website. I took his class only as a requirement and I am beyond happy I chose him for a teacher. Great sense of humor and is honest and fair. Now he is a teacher that loves what he does. Take his class!!!

Gary Zabel is the best proffessor on campus. I learned a lot from his class. He makes a difficult subject easy. No books needed, everything from his website. Genuinely carinng for students and willing to listen to what you have to say. He also is funny and adds his ad hoc variety of humor into every class. Suugest you take one of his classes.

This was the best class that I have taken. Professor Zabel is interesting, brilliant, and funny. He lectures half the time and students make presentations the other half. He really cares about his students and is very flexible; understanding that most students have a life outside of school. I highly recommend a class with Professor Zabel.

His class is easy. Just go for attendance and do a couple of long essays. The stuff he taught was definitely very liberal, but I kept an open mind. Sometimes I would find his lectures interesting and other times I would be struggling to stay awake.

Zabel is a great guy. Very understanding to outside class issues, very open to what you have to say. The class (Moral Issues) is very easy- just a midterm ( which he allows you to rewrite) and a final. No textbooks. He spends most of the class talking so it gets boring, but take some notes and do the papers and you will get an easy A.

Good professor, great guy. He is very understanding of issues you may encounter during the course, school related or not. He's very down to earth and is genuinely interested in what you have to say. He is a fair grader. The lectures get a bit boring, but if you engage him he will encourage and participate in discussion as long as the class can.

I agree with the boring class, and pushes the extreme liberal views of everyone else. Phil 108,- he doesnt teach about abortion or capital punishment or ANYTHING relevant!!!! Prof Zabel was amazing. No text books needed. Readings were provided by him. Excellent subject matter (very interesting), super clear,Great lectures!Prof Zabel is an overall GREAT guy. Willing to go the extra mile for his students. 2 large essays 15-20 pages. I would recommend taking him to any student!! I will be taking all of his classes. If you are serious about Philosophy--Zabel is the MAN!
