Weekly 1 page response papers. A LOT OF READINGS!!! an oral presentation based off a 1-2 page paper. a 6-8 page essay worth almost 50% of your grade. a portfolio. You have to purchase photocopied pictures of HIS book, not an E-book or a physical book, but pictures of it for $10 #SCAM they don't charge you that much at Walgreens or CVS for pictures

He gives a good amount of work, but not too much. He's sometimes funny and I enjoyed him, but he can be a bit unclear at times, but just do the work and do it on time-- you'll be fine. He especially likes people who have strong opinions and speak up in class.

I have taken many classes with Vandermeer and he's awesome. He's super funny and keeps you engaged. He's very opinionated and makes his views known but he is open to disagreement and encourages discussions and debates. Class is very easy & you learn a lot. Lots of reading and writing but its manageable and hes flexible

Guy is out of control. Forces his opinions down your throat, no matter how absurd and unintelligible. The class was ridiculously easy. Most people didn't show up, and almost everyone handed in every paper the last day of class. Nice for some people, but frustrating for those who put in effort.

He is one of my favorite professor's out of the few that I have. EXTREMELY funny! You dont even want to leave the class. And if you're in a class filled with opinionated people, MORE fun! The work is not difficult. You'll get alot out of the class.

Prof Van Der Meer's Black Consciousness class was amazing. 2 Essays and heavy reading. His lectures were amazing and he cares about his students. This is the ONLY first year seminar ALL students should take. UMASS Boston should have him train other professors with his brand of education. Prof. Van Der Meer is a role model educator!!

Fun and relax class. Time flys so fast because you will be laugh a minute when he sits down. Good to take with heavy class as the same time if you need to fill full your credits. Do all your works (no time limit) and show up everyday, you will get an A. He's the best to understand you have thing to do outside the classroom.
