pointless class - only teaches about birds bats and bears. literally. if you need an easy B to fill the credit take it from him. if you care about learning biology or have a hard time memorizing (every test is obscure bird and bird call memorization) than skip this class

Very frustrating class. There's pretty much no hw but the grading is subjective & depends on the TA grading,I talked to one who said he doesn't give A's. Also the TA's are given a list of things that should be in your essay but we have to basically read his mind because he hardly teaches anything and there are some really obscure questions.

If you have a major that you need to take & understand biology for- do not take this class. You only learn about birds, bats, bears, etc. But if you are creative, and just want to get this GE out of the way, its an OK class. He is very unorganized, but HILARIOUS. I had fun in this class, but I really didn't learn anything.

His lectures are stream-of-conscious and he just mumbles all hour. His class is fairly easy until the final where he hits you with a massive bird/essay final. I love birding, but thought the class was a waste of time. No structure at all and it gets frustrating because he won't tell you expectations.

This was one of the worst classes I've ever taken, and I'm about to graduate, so I've taken a lot. The final was incomprehensible. I knew the material front and back, but no one had any idea what he was asking. It was the most frustrating experience of my college career. I recommend taking Bio from someone else.

So listen... either you'll hate it or you'll love it. If your trying to learn something about cell division take it from another guy. If you want to pick up a great habit (birding) and be entertained while earning an easy a take it. Personally I loved it.

This Class was a complete waste of my time. there is absolutely no organization and He gives out A's to students for the stupidest reasons. There is absolutely no reason to come to class and I think it is safe to say I didn't learn a thing.

He is hilarious. I love Professor Black. LITERALLY, all you talk about is birds, bears, snakes, bats, and frogs. He is so funny, and I would really recommend taking it. It's an easy A, as long as you are creative and write a poem or something on the tests. You know the questions on advance, so it's no problem. Easy way to take care of Biology!

I LOVED his class. So fun to go each day. He is such a funny man. Not your typical bio class but that's what made it so great. Go bear tracking with him! Experience of a life time. You will not regret taking bio from him normally I hate science but he made it such a cool experience. Has great life lessons each day in class :)

I LOVED THIS CLASS! i'm now a total birdwatcher. he's hilarious, he's a really talented guy, and knows a ton. I learned stuff i'll never forget! this was my favorite class I ever took!!! it was way fun. get into it, go birding, and you'll love it. it was so fun and totally different! be funny in the "exams" and you'll get A's. it's easy, & way fun

Probably should have dropped the class. Birds birds birds. Loved the fact that there weren't outside assignments besides bird watching. I know lots of people cheated out and made up their bird lists, but doing it wasn't THAT hard if you have access to a car. Crazy class, kind of hit or miss...mostly miss. And he mumbles. A lot.

Prof Black is hillarious and cares not only about his material but also his students. This isn't your typical biology class but it's a lot of fun, all you have to do is show up and make an effort to learn, it's really not that hard. Midterms are a hand written page essay and he gives you the questions to prepare for the test weeks in advance.

one of my test questions was WORD FOR WORD "what does the sound of trees LOOK like?" another one was "why do we like bears".....very random very insane....i kinda got mad alot...but he is hilarious...very entertaining

he is probably the craziest teacher ive ever had. if you do not care at all about biology TAKE IT. his exams are really out there and if u study and u feel like u know the material, it doesnt matter cuz he has random curve balls that get you mad. to be in this class u have to be a poet. hilarious crazy pointless. i did find a love for BIRDS

This guy was amazing. I laughed every day I went to class. If you actually care about learning about cellular bio, take from someone else, if you want a fun GE that doesn't require hours of memorization, take from Dr. Black. Not only is it easy, but he makes you laugh.

haha this class is a complete joke! I only went to class on exam days which were writing essays. Going to lectures are pointless unless you want to go crazy. I still got an A- in the class so its not really hard. However you have to get over a 95% to get an A. You can tell he is a nice guy, but just a little out there.
