Comment:
He is so boring. Do not take. He has a two hour lecture. Hes hard to hear, doesnt interact with students, doesnt ask questions, his writing is bad, and he is arguably the most boring teacher Ive ever had and Im writing this after my first class with him. Im definitely dropping and switching teachers

Volkmer is very intelligent and understands math fluently. He grades his tests leniently and there were only 6 HW assignments, compared to other CALC teachers who require much more. He does mostly just go through the motions and teaches directly from the book, so you have the option of learning this on your own if you want. The final was difficult.

Comment:
Ive had Volkmer for 320 and 322. He is not a good teacher Im afraid, he has the knowledge and ability to go through the motions but lacks the student interaction part: he will not know who you are or acknowledge you, he will not ask the class questions, he will not make sure you understand. Prepare to teach yourself. Doesnt give much homework

I skipped nearly every lecture so I can't say much for their quality, but given that I was still able to do the hw, I would say this is not a hard class. The lectures I did attend included extensive examples of the content found in the book. Read the book, do the problems, and attend lecture if your confused. Easy A. Plus, tests are open notes.

Don't take this class if you don't know the content. You can't understand him. He doesn't teach, he just goes through the motions. It is easy to get an A if you are willing to teach yourself the material. Notes are allowed on his exam and there is extra credit which allows you to get an A with ease. Textbook is helpful, don't buy. It's on D2l.

Honors Calc in itself is hard. But even though a little hard to understand he makes everything clear. Use his office hours. Gave me a really good recommendation for an internship

One of the best professors I have worked with. Use his office hours. Very difficult class but the grading is quite lenient and the homework is so easy that he usually does everything in the class.

He is awesome. Honors Calc is a difficult class. But you gotta give some reading to the book before coming to the class. Unlike other professors he just made us buy a $20 book :)

Volkmer is a bit difficult to understand, but he's more than willing to help out in office hours. He sometimes skips steps on the board, but if you look back at it later, you'll understand. He is truly brilliant. Volkmer teaches you many applications and little tricks, which is always nice. Exams are easy - you get to use your notes!

Dr. Volkmer lives and breathes mathematics. If you want to do well in this course, study groups are a must, as Dr. Volkmer can be difficult to understand due to having such a soft spoken nature. He is always kind and willing to help out. He answers questions very well when a student is brave enough to ask, and the exams are very straightforward.

Professor Volkmer was great! He's really good with giving help if you don't understand things. Make sure to attend every class, though, as he lets you use your notes on the exams. I would also reccomend sitting up front - it's easier to read everything he writes and says.

Great Professor. He knows the material very well. If you need help, he is glad to help. Make sure you take notes and write down everything you write down on the board. You CAN USE THEM on the exam.

I think he was a great professor. After his class I really felt like I had learned "math" instead of just a grab bag of calculus tools. He is a very respectful, helpful professor

Some of the students here apparently didn't like Dr. Volkmer too much. I disagree whole-heartedly. He's a very thorough instructor. I learned a lot. Lower-level students likely complain because they're not used to a math teacher that expects his or her students to read the material ahead of time. (This is college, folks.)

wow, he's not a good teacher at all. don't take this class if you have never had calculus before! He doesn't ever look at the class, but constantly talks to the board. Is sometimes hard to hear; make sure to always write things down, he allows notes on exams. Very boring..if you don't like proofs, AVOID this class at all costs!

wow. i took honors calc for a challenge but this was beyond what i expected. i couldn't even follow what he wrote down. he makes alot of mistakes in his work so on exams he allowed for some error. the key to his class is study groups for homework and OPEN NOTE TESTS. make sure you have examples from the book in your notes, that is how i passed
