Comment:

Taken the double lecture class between him and Dr Spangler. Though is he very knowledgeable on Latin America, he is extremely rude and dismissive if you approach him during his office hours. He has nothing but disrespectful feedback on your written work. I would not recommend as a GPA booster, or as any class period.

Not open to other ideas, if he doesn't like what you wrote he will automatically give you a low grade. Very dismissive if you go and talk to him outside of class. Overall I didn't enjoy this class and had it not been for this class my semester would ave been fantastic.

Dr. Kraay is a good prof! He's very caring and will give you TONS of help outside of class if you go to his office hours. I enjoyed his class, and he delivered his material in an organized & enthusiastic manner. I think these bad reviews are mostly due to his tough grading, but I feel like his feedback always justifies the grades he gives.

Did not enjoy this class. The topic in general is something I enjoy and wanted to know about which is why I took the class to begin with. All the feedback I received from him was negative and not once was there a positive thing to say about what I handed in. He expected way too much when it came to writing and did not accept ideas of others.

Dr Kraay was a good lecturer (even if he was a little quiet at times), and was very helpful if asked, I wouldn't say he isn't approachable. What I will say is that his expectations for written work are inconsistent with other history profs and his marking is much harder. I have taken classes from other "hard" profs and they were nothing like him.

I love this professor! His slides don't ever get really explanatory so you need to go to his lectures to know specifically what he's talking about in his slides, but he's extremely helpful, and more than willing to talk to you if you need some questions answered. Very interesting professor!

The instructor spoke very fast and it was very stressful to take notes. He was indifferent to students and was not approachable. The attendance in the class dropped from about 18 people to about 6. I felt he hated students and hated teaching.

Not a bad Professor. Assigns a lot of readings, though I didn't read them all. He can get a bit dull but his lectures are organized really well. Uses blackboard and powerpoint. I learned lots in this class.

WORST PROFESSOR EVER. He is so boring and monotone. AND MARKS ESSAY'S like no other. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. I heard good things about Spangler and she is good but Kraay is NOT. and him alone, outweighs this class. DON"T TAKE IT. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy

Incredibly boring and marks brutally. He talks so quickly and not overly loudly in lectures that I had to type my notes to keep up. The amount of reading is ridiculous. Unless you have no choice - avoid him.

First class I ever fell asleep in. He's incredibly boring but incredibly knowledgeable. You can tell when he gets excited about the material (haha). I didn't even bother reading the critique on my written works, just concentrated on memorizing as many of the terms on the study guide. Didn't bother with the reading too much, just skimmed it.

HARD MARKER!! Class is very interesting but the essay, midterm were marked hard. He also gave you a list of over 100 terms to know for the final which was way to much. I loved the material in this class but hated him and his testing style.

God what a boring teacher. I could barely keep awake in his class. He made us read some papers he'd published. They too, were utterly boring. I did learn stuff though, I guess.
