Had him for an online class. Got an 88.9 so he rounded to 89 but would not let me do a single thing to bring up my grade 1 point. He was easy, I'm just salty. Also, really the only grade that truly matters is the Final Research Essay. Got high A's on every single thing throughout the semester, did poorly on that, and received a B.... :/

I had Dr. Shippey as a professor for ENG 101 & 102 in 1992. Retrospectively, he was by far the best professor that I had at ABAC. The skills that he taught me continue to help me in my job as a Speech-Language Pathologist & ESOL teacher even now. The love & passion that he displayed as a teacher is enviable. He touched my life forever. -2016

It was a short summer session, heavy reading but if you actually read the discussion responses and test were quite easy. Very helpful when it came to the papers and responded to discussions and papers with positive comments as well as places to improve. Effective and helpful.

I love Dr. Shippey! I wish he taught every subject! He gives great lectures, mostly about english, but life too! There are 4 essays, one timed essay, and a final essay. The turn-around time can be quick, but it's not bad! TAKE HIM!!

Dr. Shippy is an older gentleman, but he is so funny and sarcastic. I loved the way he taught the text. He's really encouraging and is willing to help. There is a lot of reading from the text books, but he goes over everything with notes and writes his notes as he lectures. I highly recommend him for any class he teaches.

Dr. Shippey is the man. I took him for 1101 and 1102 and made A's in both. Never got below a 94 on an essay. Lectures can become boring, but it is worth it for the A. Shippey is a great guy, and I would take him as much as possible

TAKE DR SHIPPEY! Possibly the easiest teacher I have ever had! If you write your paper then ask him to look over it to make sure you are on the right track, he will correct it right then and there! i never made below a 90 on an essay because he corrected them before hand! Yeah he talks alot and sometimes is boring but I will take boring for an A.

Dr. Shippey has been a great professor! He is pretty flexible. Allows a fair amount of absences and grades fairly. I've enjoyed his class and learned a lot. There are two timed essays and then several out of class essays. In addition he has one or two quizzes over a few essays that he has you read (EASY!).

Really nice guy that is passionate about english, talks most of the class, sometimes interesting, sometimes not, but the tests are easy if you read the material, and the papers are relatively easy too.

Dr. Shippey is a good guy. He really tries to be understanding on papers. As long as you write half decent, you will get an A/B. Do what he says for reading and papers, take notes, seem half interested and participate in discussion, and you will get a good grade. Oh and he will keep you until the very last minute of class is used.
