Kind soul. More professors like Howard Olsen please! He is teaching his passion. Only reason I can come up with for wasting his knowledge and efforts on 1st year students. Not only is the course easy, it is truly enjoyable. Take the course, do the work, and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of his class.

Comment:

I think a lot of his lectures were valid. ENGL 101 was about developing ideas and getting people thinking about topics. Many students couldn't see that. Howard was a good teacher and a good marker. He cared about his students and was willing to help you if you needed it.

Really nice guy. Very intelligent. Understands so much on such a broad scope that it's fascinating. Go to his class, read the material, participate in discussions, and you will thoroughly enjoy it. Explains everything crystal clear. Take his class =)

Olson is an Great Prof!!! He goes out of his way to make things easier for his students. Yeah he might talk about the same topics but he values everyone's opinion. For anyone looking for an easy/ helpful english teacher OLSON is it.. AMAZING PROF!!!

What can I say about ol' Howie? He's certainly one of the nicest instructors I've had, but like many others have already said, he really loves to dwell on the same topics and is unwilling to accept any counter-arguments (he'll hear 'em, but then he'll dismiss them just as quickly). Also, this class taught me that Aboriginals are made of magic!

Howie...where to start.Yes , his topics could be interesting, if he didnt argue the same pionts everyday and allowed you to debate with out shutting you up by saying "but you have to agree that....in any event..." and COMPLETLY turn you down. When i suggested a few things that might improve his class i was told that i was a failure as a student.huh

I can honestly say that I learned little (if anything) of value in this course. It became his soapbox to rant on issues that interested him. Class attendance was minimal. Our suggestions for improving the class were met with reactions ranging from disinterest to outright hostility. I wouldn't recommend him to anyone.

Oy. Good class if you want a study period two times a week. But if you actually care about paying 500 bucks to learn, get a new teacher. He sits and talks about the same stuff. I tried to start class discussions but it's exhausting when everything I say gets thrown back in my face to make me wrong - I gave up trying to participate back in oct.

Oh Howie. Maybe once, a long time ago, you were a fantastic teacher. Now, you just sit in front of a class that dwindles even more every day and talk about the same irrelevent topics. You would think, in a college setting, teachers would remember which days their classes are on and wouldn't threaten to quit because your students weren't interesting

Easily the worst teacher I've come across in my entire school career. He is senile and completely out of touch with reality and his students, and has no way to communicate with us. Is obsessed with conspiracy theories and not interested in your beliefs or opinions, because he is old... therefore his opinions are the only valid ones.

HORRIBLE TEACHER!!!! This class is a joke. No one shows up and all year we've talked about 3 things: feminism, aboriginals, and how much he hates computers. This class lacks structure, lessons, deadlines, activity, fun, and guidelines. Avoid at all costs.

Nobody in our class likes this guy -- most people skip on a regular basis. We haven't even talked about the books we're supposed to be studying, either -- it's all about native rights. Don't get me wrong, that's a serious issue, but it isn't relevant, and his blathering isn't helping anyone learn.

Howard is an excellent professor. I took the entire course over the Spring semester and he made every class interesting. He gives great instruction on writing essays and reading critically. What impressed me most was his capacity to maintain interest in what we were studying. Great ideas and discussion (if you participate).

Howard is a great prof. He's willing to give you an extension on your deadline if you need it. He's really understanding and helpful. He marks essay really easily. If you need help, he'll give you resources that will help you with your essay. He's a really great professor.
