Comment:
Wu is one of the best math teachers I have ever had. He wants you to understand the actual mathematics, rather than just "get the answer". If you're taking his class just for credit and don't really want to learn or to work hard, you're gonna have a bad time.

I took his class in the early 90's... He made the concepts more complicated than necessary and his accent made him difficult to understand. Exams were ridiculous. He made me feel a fool in front of the entire auditorium when I asked for clarification on a "lemma". Avoid this professor. I graduated Biochem with honors - but Wu did not help.

Whiners should have taken 16a or 32. Read the book and go to office hours/SLC. Do your homework. If you assume you can just show up and take the tests because you passed AP Calc in HS, you deserve your fail

if you are a freshman, dont take prof. Wu's class and come here to complain. However, if you want to learn some serious mathematics, prof. Wu is definitely the one that you should ever take a class with!

Wu is a great professor. He cares not just about the answer you get, but how you get there as well, which ensures you are understanding the theory instead of just regurgitating what you've heard in class. I would recommend him to anyone interested in math history, geometry, or teaching math, since he's passionate about all of those.

His accent makes him very difficult to understand, and as he is already hard to follow it makes lecture almost useless. Midterm material isn't clear so it is difficult to prepare. This class is ridiculous; math 1a is easy, but Wu makes it horrible. Take it with someone else.

Lecture can be confusing, but if you go to office hours, Prof. Wu is amazing! He's very patient and wants to make sure you understand the concepts- he's an amazing person. Yes, he does have an accent, but that's not an excuse to say he's a bad professor.

Crazy man- really clumsy which made lecture entertaining. He aimed to make sure his students really understood the material and he really made an effort to interact with students by showing up in our sections. His tests can be pretty crazy but in the end the curve will save you.

If you failed Gu's 1A, you're an idiot, and should've taken 16A. Stupid freshmen. Did you think you could coast through with your highschool calculus? This is Cal, there are people here infinitely smarter and hungrier than you from all over the world. If you can't handle an intro math course, drop out.

I love Professor Wu's teaching style. His lectures are very organized and engaging. He makes sure the students understand before moving onto next subject. Homework is related to the test, and with reasonable amount. Often criticizes high school math education in the states, and it gives much motivation to me as a future teacher!

The only reason I passed this class was because of an excellent GSI. Wu makes a subject which should be elegant and exciting confusing and frustrating.

Flunked 40% of the class when I was there and was put on academic probation. But Berkeley introductory classes are what they are -- weeder classes to see if you really want it bad enough.

Wu is impossible. PROOFS PROOFS PROOFS! sure it's cool to know how a concept works but not all of us are going to spend the rest of our lives wondering how the concepts of calculus work. we just need to get the prereq done and over with.

This guy is something. People don't like him because they usually don't get math that much. Most people think of math in terms of formulas but Wu helps you think of math in terms of logic. He is not easy but please appreciate what he is trying to do.
