Comment:

Dr. Ipsen is, hands down, the best professor I have ever had. She really wants to see you learn the material, but she is not easy. She begins ON TIME, every time, and she does not play with disrespect. Your proofs must be thorough and well thought-out, but I suggest that anyone thinking about a career in mathematics take her course. She's great

Fundamentally she does not "get" that some students don't "get it." She speaks quickly when you ask her to explain complex topics, she belittles you when you go to her office hours, she has too much hubris to admit when shes missing the bar, and to further it she lacks that certain level of empathy/charm that is required to keep students engaged

She spent the entire class going over the very basic proofs and never got past what most of the other linear algebra classes covered in the first month. It was an easy class that I never needed to show up for, but I do not feel like I learned anything.

Dr. Ipsen is serious about her students being professional. If you are texting in class or on your laptop, be prepared to be called out. She has no shame in embarrassing anyone. She does has a thick accent, but it really is not that hard to understand her. She moves quick through the lectures. The tests were very similar to the homework problems.

She's insane. The harshest grader I have ever seen in my life. Also, if you're going to be late to class, just don't go. Showing up late means she'll chew you out in front of the entire class.

Very knowledgeable. Will answer everything in the class with utmost clarity. Provides very good notes in the class and also free downloadable textbooks in her website. Best math class I have ever taken. Writes a little faster on the board and hard to follow her sometimes while taking down the notes, if I have to complain something about the class.

I am an international student. This was my first semester in the U.S., so I was still adjusting to listening to professors speak English. Maybe 30% of my class were Americans while 70% were from overseas. She told us NOT to make any audio recordings of her lectures. Not exactly a nice lady. She does not care about her students.

Her classes are very theoretical, andthe textbook she used was of little help. the book is too terse and has no pertinent examples worked. She teaches good, but is very fast-paced too. I took Calculus in high school and could have easily placed out of this course. But somehow her genious teaching style and well composed tests kept me from making anything that could have resembled a decent grade. If you do not enjoy learning, and love bad grades then I would recommend spending a semester of torture with this lady.
