Comment:
I don't mind hard classes (3.8 GPA, biology senior). What I did mind was that Dr. Rajagopal is unprofessional, slow to grade work, gave no feedback, gave no practice HW or quizzes so you could prepare for exams, and wouldn't give you credit on exams even if you were right but didn't explain it in the exact words she wanted you to use. Worst prof.

Good luck. There are no rubrics for any of the work, the class averages on midterms were F's. There is little to no feedback on assignments. This is by far the worst class I've had at Oregon State.

Lectures are set seminar style, you gotta be able to understand everything this professor says during her lectures. For exams, you have to study each study guide inside and out, thoroughly, and be able to apply each point to real-life situations. Deductive reasoning is a big part of her tests as well as zero partial credit.

I was a grad student taking BI 314. I got a B+ and not an A because she did not curve any of the exams. She was nice, always available for help (I knew nothing about cell bio) but those tests were wicked, some multiple choice questions worth 10 points each, zero partial credit on the problems. Still, she was the best prof for 314 teaching then.

Rajagopal had very clear easy to understand lectures that i really appreciated but the testing was extremely difficult. I felt like it did not matter how well I thought I understood the material I would still get a very poor grade. Very frustrating experience that tears the student down rather then builds them up.

Indira is a brilliant professor and you will learn a huge amount of really interesting material, but her tests are very difficult. Class can be miserable at times, but it has prepared me very well for other Bio classes I've taken, making those other classes (such as Genetics) that much easier.

Indiria is one of the best professors I have had. She genuinely cares about you both as a student and as a person. In lecture it feels like she isn't saying anything that is difficult to understand, but once you leave class you realize you actually learned a lot: it's the way she presents the material that makes it easy to learn.

Comment:
First off, has not graded 8 weeks worth of homework yet. Exams are terrible; questions are not clear, and if you don't explain a question the way she wants it, even if you have the correct answer, the entire question is wrong and no points received. Stickler for spelling, if you accidentally spell a word wrong, then the answer is wrong. TERRIBLE!!

She's a very nice person. Her tests are do-able, but you really have to study for them. Some of the multiple choice were like 10 points apiece. She'll help you though, until you understand it. She does want you to do well. I wish she had taught BB 490-492 because those teachers were all so bad. Take her for cell bio though if you can. She's good.

Indira is awesome. She's really awesome. She is a great teacher, she is tough, but she really genuinely wants people to learn. Read her syllabus because that has all the information you need to figure out what to expect in the class. Read her test questions carefully. Go to her office hours.

She has a long list of expectations but does not tell you about them, or they are critically written in the syllabus. Does not return assignments in a timely manner or at all. Expect no feedbackanswer key to any of her tests. And asking for help only adds fuel to her fire, and will yell at you and tell you that you are wrong, with no help given.

Tests are tough. Spelling matters and answers must be very precise, but there's also a lot of extra credit. Print the lecture slides out before each lecture! They help. Indira's not easy to get a hold of during office hours due to the high student demand, so expect a long wait. Also, be prepared to interrupt her often as she tends to get off topic.

I took the online course and the material wasn't difficult to understand but the tests killed my grade. Most of her questions were open ended and she expected very precise answers.

Indira is a challenging teacher, but not impossible. What I ultimately discovered was that you can be successful in this class if you put in effort. Indira really tests you on your ability to APPLY concepts. Her topic outlines provided an excellent overview of the material, and her study guides were great test preparation. You will learn so much!!!

Indira is an incredibly rude professor. She is very formal up until you need genuine help and ask her questions. She is easily tempered and offers absolutely zero guidance or advice. She holds study sessions that contain minimal relevant information. She gets side tracked and wastes an hour of your time. Avoid this professor if you can.

She is very upfront about her tests not being ones that you just regurgitate facts. Really need to think and apply concepts and put them together. I LOVED her teaching style and how she worked in related things like stem cell and cancer research and really wanted you to think about HOW we know that cells work the way they do.

Great professor but her tests are very hard. Expect to be tested on your critical thinking skills. That being said, Indira doesn't provide much help,, in terms, of critical thinking skills. Would love to been taught the critically thnking skills she expected out of students.
