This was one of the best classes I've ever taken at BYU. He is very knowledgeable. It was a difficult class, but I loved learning in this class. That makes all the difference in the world. The readings were relatively short; however, they were really deep and complex. I would have to read them 2 to 3 times to really figure out what it was saying.

All the readings are optional, but you definitely need to review them for the papers. Dr. Faulconers lectures are pretty dry. He doesnt care what grade anybody gets in the class or if you show up, and the only grades are 5 papers, the midterm, and the final. The papers arent long, but the grading is tough for a beginning philosophy class.

I'm an accounting major (and philosophy minor. Odd combo, I know), but this was my FAVORITE class this semester. He's intelligent, gives good feedback, and is understanding of students' lives. Plus, you "self-grade," which basically means you can bump your grade up if you went to class and participated consistently. Hard class, but worth it.

He's reasonable, but no-nonsense. If you develop a personal relationship with him, it will make your experience much better. Here's a professor who doesn't take crap or excuses. But he's a solid choice and knows his stuff, and explains it well. But beware when he asks for specific answers to specific questions.

Prof. Faulconer is the most reasonable professor I've encountered. Understands life of a student, and doesn't just give busy work. If it's just busy work, he won't assign it. Seemed kind of unaware of the subject and difficult at first, but quickly developed into an incredibly honest, funny, and good at explaining difficult concepts. SOLID guy.

This is a pretty easy class to fill your generals. You have hardly any homework besides 6 papers that are really short, and the tests are a piece of cake. Dr. Faulconer is funny, and he is really likable. You don't need to come to class, but you'll probably enjoy yourself if you do. Good class.

This was a very interesting class with less work than I expected. Minimal readings and very short papers. You can definitely miss class when you need to, and he records all of the lectures. Very nice guy with cool ideas.

Plain and simple logic is a tough subject so just be prepared, that being said Professor Faulkner is a great teacher and made a pretty hard subject decently interesting. Logic is not the funniest branch of philosophy and he knows that and tries to make it a positive experience. I really liked the class and would defiantly recommend it with him.

350 - Heidegger. Convert to the LDS church and a military brat, Dr. F is familiar with a variety of international phil. topics. He is smart. You will learn a lot from him. One of the two continental professors in the Phil depart. He also explains difficult concepts easily. Know how to write well in order to do well in this class (you self grade).

Way interesting and really knowledgable. He explains difficult concepts well. But he also expects a lot, and it is hard to get an A on his assignments and tests. Overall, a great teacher and an interesting class, but a whole lot of work.

I was in the class with the 1-1-1 rater and if it is who I think it is, the whole class would have gladly kicked him out. Professor Faulconer taught me what going to college is all about. Excellent professor.

There's a lot of reading and work, but he knows his stuff and makes it interesting. He made me consider becoming a philosophy major. He's a great guy, and I recommend his class for anyone willing to work for their grade.

Took these classes as a freshman, very demanding and quite hard. Professor Faulconer is awesome, though. He really knows the stuff well and does a good job. Wouldn't recommend the class as I did it, though. As a freshman, I just wasn't ready for this kind of thing.

I took this as a freshman and it was a lot of work. We had a 1 page response due every class, but we discussed the material in class, and Faulconer is very knowledgable. The class makes you think. Its tough, but Faulconer does a great job and really knows his stuff.

I had to add this because I want to counter that 1-1-1. Brother Faulconer is a great man, possibly the most intelligent, kind man I have met lately. He really understands how the gospel fits into philosophy.

Incredible logician! He makes class fun and is very interactive in class. Though the papers are strict, they improve writing like there's no tomorrow! I don't know what is up with the 1-1-1 rating he got, but he didn't deserve it!

Wow! Faulconer is a genius! He's pretty hard, but you'll end up infinately many times smarter once you've taken the class. I definately recommend it.
