Comment:

Tests are hard and based almost entirely on lecture. Class material is not really difficult, but a lot to remember. Lectures are good, though she doesn't test on the points she emphasizes. Makes cute puns and keeps the material rolling. I learned a lot.

Comment:

All over the place, very unfocused and test questions unclear. An endocrinologist (which is Thorton's speciality) with an MD came to sit in on the class only to reveal that Professor Thorton was teaching erroneous information. She also has a tendency to form personal opinions about students affecting her grading scale. Watch out! Few if any got A's

GREAT prof. i loved the class it was so fascinating! She is an excellent prof., very enthusiastic, cares alot about her students, but expects them to work hard.

A difficult but interesting class. The format is mostly lectures, and occasionally discussions. Easy to space out on. She has a friendly, easygoing nature, but she grades harshly. Tests are quite hard.

Comment:

She has a very disorganized way of presenting material. Instead of basing her lectures around a central theme or problem she teaches in rather unrelated laundry lists. ie: This does this, this does this, this does this etc. Her test questions also tend to be unclear so watch out. However the material is interesting from time to time.

I took Jan's behavioral class because I'd heard such good things about Hormones. BAD, BAD idea. It's poorly structured, jumps around a lot, and she was COMPLETELY UNCLEAR as to what would be on the exam (and then got defensive when we asked for study sessions). I got an A in the class, and didn't learn a damn thing.

Exams take knowing the material cold, but she is incredibly open to explaining exactly what is needed to be known, making the exams perfectly fair. Great professor - one of the best I've had.
