If you have taken a class with fay pls file a complaint with the dean of math. If we dont voice our opinion about fay more students will fall victim to his unfair teaching practices. DO NOT SIGN UP FOR HIS CLASS! Take any other professor possible. If you value your GPA, dont take your chances. Let the math department know we want him removed.

Honors 3.98 student he gave me a C. Killed my GPA and probably my only chance at UCLA. You have no chance at a decent grade. You get a A, B or D on test questions. If you get the right answer he will give you a D for missing a parenthesis. The tests are not hard, he is just an unfair grader. He doesn't care about your grade. He will sabotage you.

The amount of work put into just passing this class would earn you an A in 2 other classes. Half of the HW assignments are extremely difficult mathematical proofs and the other half is on one of those open source math websites where you can't understand what its asking. The tests aren't too difficult, but he grades hard. only take if you enjoy math

knows his stuff. can go fast at times, but its up to the student to make any adjustments. if youre a lazy student then fay is going to rip you apart. if you have no problem taking pride in your work, hes a great option. hes really chill too. always excited to answer any questions, as long as youre not asking what that says on the board.

I'm sure you've all heard that this is a tough class and that most people drop. Dr. Fay's class weeds out the lazy students. If you want to learn the material at a high level, take Dr. Fay, but make sure you put in the time outside class. If you want a professor that is going to hold your hand and spoon feed you material, take Tavakoli or Kopp.

So you think youre good at math? Take John Fay. He makes you work so hard just to keep your head above water. If you arent doing your work, youre going to get exposed during the midterm. READ THE BOOK. Bad lectures too. Dont take this guy unless the other math courses are already ALL filled up.

Pretty chill guy. Definitely a math nerd. Hes not mean, or rude or anything like that. Just a really smart guy thats really good at math. He doesnt even realize how hard he makes his class on students because how much he knows his stuff. He definitely tries to teach, but his eyes light up too much and goes too fast. Has a clear passion for math.

Fay has a bad rep at Chaffey and while I was taking his class, I thought that he was terrible too. It was differential equations, and it was a lot of work for sure. I have graduated and am now attending a UC, and in retrospect,Fay was actually a good professor. His lectures were thorough, and his explanations made sense. Don't hate, put the work in.

Professor Fay knows and is very enthusiastic about math, but I had a very hard time learning it from him. I learned basically everything from the homework, which took me all day since I was learning as I went. Professor Fay really cares about his students and was a nice guy, but I really struggled with learning the subject.

Professor Fay is a very nice person he really does try to help students out he usually gets to class early in the morning so students can go and work on homework and he asks if you need help on anything, overall, if you take him for fast track there's a lot of homework online so if your taking more than one class you won't pass.

Doesn't explain the material. Makes you get into groups to work on worksheets with the new criteria that hasn't been explained at all. grades homework off of one answer only. late credit given but its the lowest score of whoever turned theirs in on time. gives terrible feedback or no feedback.

It was hard to keep up with the homework, plenty of it. I have no problem putting in the time if it would have helped me. The constant "use technology" button is nice, but StatCrunch apps aren't exactly available for testing. If you enjoy watching a man flip coins for hours and learning a practice test that will leave you prepaired to fail.. enjoy!

There is no doubt Dr. Fay knows math, he simply does not know how to teach it. I figured this out when I watched him flip a penny for 10 minutes in order to get probability data. I kid you not! His tests consist of examples not shown or gone over in the book or in his lectures, and those consist of simplified restatements of his PowerPoint. Avoid!

I took Professor Fay during Spring of 2016, so this rating is a bit late. I was in MATH 605. We did all our work on the computer through a program call ALEKS. EVERY problem was based on that program and when you had a question, he didn't really explain it clearly to understand it. Luckily, this was a pass, no pass course. And luckily I passed.

Forewarning: Hands down one of the worst Professors here. He Moves to fast with criteria, gets upset if you don't understand, and has accumulative tests from the 1st until the final. Doesn't care about his students, doesn't assist even his SI on his criteria either. I had a D in his class, and dropped took with another professor and got an A.

He has a very old way of doing mathematics. I did not enjoy taking his fast track class at all. It was way too fast paced. The way he writes on the chalkboard is very annoying.
