Comment:
This class was hard to pass because the information on the study guides, (which consisted of a few questions that you must answer and did not give any information on what to study), was completely different from what was on the exams. He rambled on in lectures about stuff that was not important to the exams or the class. He also did not use Canvas.

Terrible, too difficult class for a prerequisite! Be prepared for +8 hours of studying and read the entire textbook. With all this, you might still get solid B nothing more. The lecture is bad, requires two pages front and back for one lecture. Would not retake this class with Wilson, exams are just the death of a GPA.

John Wilson is truly a wise and knowledgable professor. Yes, he's a tough grader. Yes, he expects a lot. However, if you truly lend your ear to him during lecture and flip open the book before the discussion, you'll learn a lot. His class is one of those classes that offer so much knowledge to be absorbed. I also love his witty humor.

Comment:
I took John Wilson for World Civ I and that was the hardest class I've ever taken. To be fair, we covered a lot of information, but his tests were ridiculous. None of the information on the study guide was on the test, and he was not helpful at all when you would ask him a question. Be prepared to read the entire textbook.

One thing is certain: his class is tough. It is the bane of the existence of most history majors. However, the amount of knowledge you absorb from his class and lectures are amazing. He makes you work for your grade but his class is a must take if you're genuinely interested in learning, despite the grade you receive. Easy B, near impossible A.

Doesn't use any visual aides and chooses to lecture from a piece of paper. I took a minimum of 2 pages (double sided) notes every lecture. Very dull and drawn out. Study hard and you can pass the class, but it isn't easy at all. Definitely the hardest B I've ever had to work for.

Many Pop-Quizzes, Papers (4), Book Quizzes and Tests (on top of the normal class tests and quizzes), Mid-Term, Final (cumulative), and textbook work. He seems to forget that there are other classes in his student's schedules, and all of his classes have a large amount of work (It is not a little). He is a nice man, but avoid his classes.

First, he is a great guy to hag out with and to talk to. Second, his grading turnaround time is quick. I took his mandatory classes, or he would talk me into it, and he was good at that. He loves lots of tests, quizzes, and papers. Do not be even one second late on anything. If he disagrees with your point of view, your grade will suffer.

his class was hard only because he didn't have slides, so you would really have to pay attention to what he was saying. its also not good to miss a class because you loose so much information. every class i wrote at an average of 3 pages of notes. but his exams were easy especially the essays.

He is so boring! He doesn't use Powerpoint or even write on the board, he just stands and talks. He also wants you to agree with his politics on your essays.

He is a fantastic guy, so fun to listen to talk. But if you are taking this class for the sole purpose of getting an A, steer clear of Wilson. His tests are very hard and essay-based so depending on how he feels, that's what grade you will get.

If you're willing to put in some effort, Wilson's classes can be extremely rewarding. He has a wealth of knowledge and is really interesting to talk to. His tests definitely require studying and I would recommend typing up notes the day of and reorganizing, but he's a great professor!

Dr. Wilson is one of the best professors at Vanguard. If not the best. He expects students to learn material and then apply the material in conjunction to their own beliefs. If you can do this (with no grammatical errors), you will get a B. Getting an A is yough. I only did it a couple times out of all the classes I took from him.

Awesome professor! He talks about baseball a lot but, hey, he wrote the book on the history of baseball!!!!! I love how he dresses (his great retro 1970s style) and the freedom he gives the students to express themselves and form their own opinions. I would take more classes with this professor.

Took almost all of his classes while I was there. At first his style is hard to follow, but then you start to follow his quirky methods. He teaches history as a story and talks about it as if he were there. Take notes, note all of his humorous catch phrases, and then use them on tests. He loves to laugh at his own material. Easy B, very tough A.
