I still get emotional when I think about my terrible experience in this class and I want to prevent others from the same. You'll take his class thinking it will be a fun way to improve your photog skills. It won't. I haven't touched a DSLR since b/c of negative associations. This awful experience is part of the reason why I transferred schools.

Terrible. Just a horrible experience with Lipincott and class overall. This man is not nice, is not respectful and makes you feel like literal trash. The style of teaching he does is outdated and not worth it. He still makes people turn things in VIA FLASH DRIVE.

Professor Lippincott is truly something. He makes you work for a good grade, but as long as you're in his good side you will truly succeed. DON'T EVER BE ON YOUR PHONE, the class is small so he really does get to know everybody. I have improved my photography skills greatly, so this class it's definitely worth it.

Lippincott is the devil's spawn. Don't be lured into thinking this class is creative and fun. Despite what he claims, the grading is extremely subjective and he will argue that he is doing you a favor every single time. You can receive 95% of 6 of the 8 assignments and still get a B- in this sad excuse for a photo class.

Good guy - Don't get on his bad side. He is extremely intelligent and very helpful. Don't let his critiques get you down. He can come off as mean, but he is just looking to improve your work. Make sure you're good at spelling and using the AP Style Book!

Professor Lippincott is great! Really loves photography and is an overall cool guy. I heard he's a bit tougher on the higher level classes though.

Lippincott cares about his students and really wants them to succeed. But NEVER spell his name wrong. He is one of the best profs I've ever had. If you take 312 fall semester be aware that Thanksgiving gets in the way of the portfolio prep. And the picture page will have you sleeping in the lab, sometimes it makes people cry.

Although his class is like PJ boot camp, you do learn a lot by shooting a variety of subjects. Establish a good relationship with him--he's one of those professors that will always lend a helping hand.

His strictness is good in that it simulates having a difficult editor, but it doesn't make for a much of "learning environment" feeling. Little room for discussions or opinions that differ from his own. More about deadlines ("ok class, get me a picture of a bird by 2pm") than about the complexities of journalistic integrity and storytelling.

Prof. Lippincott is easily my favorite prof. at BU. Knows his stuff, extremely helpful, and goes out of his way to be around. Answers emails like that, always willing to take a phone call, and generally a great guy. His classes are hard, but well worth the effort.

If you do what he asks you will receive a good grade. Sometimes you have to double-check with him to make sure you understand what he is asking for but he is always clear and always willing to help. If you show interest in what he does, he will show an interest in what you do. Work you butt off and you will get a grade that reflects your effort!

Lippincott is hard. He does play favorites but if you spend time with him, you can easily become one of his favorites. He cares about his students, just be very careful, make sure you follow the syllabus instructions EXACTLY (he's like precision) and you'll be fine. If you're in a jam, he's more than willing to help out.

If you think photos should be aesthetically pleasing AND tell a story, forget about getting good grades in this class. i'm all about photojournalism, but not about his course. plays favorites like i've never seen before.

Worst professor I've had. He's incredibly pinionated, and doesnt seem to realize photography is an art. Don't assume because he grades hard he grades fair. You'll learn technical skill, but little else and at a cost to your GPA.

I learned so much in this class! Great prof, really cares about his students, takes your work seriously and pushes you to do the same. He tells amazing stories (often the same stories several times over the course of the semester.) Good idea to make a friend who knows his or her way around the digital lab because it's not emphasized in class.

Professor Lippincott is a very tough grader, but I learned a lot in his class. Beware the speed assignment and always bring your camera to class. Besides this class is required for Phojo majors so better just suck it up and take it. It is possible to not destroy your GPA.

Prof. L was the hardest teacher I ever had in BU. Everyone loved to hate him. But looking back he was the only teacher in the photojournalism program that taught things relevant to todays photojournalism. He was passionate about his class. BU needs more profs like him in the photo program.

He is a great guy, and I learned more than I ever did with any other prof. He is really hard but he will go way out of his way to help you/push you, he has connections he will share if you earn them and the lectures were very interesting.

If you care about your GPA at all, run away now. Although he's a nice guy, he's an extremely tough grader no matter how good you think your work is. He's been known to fail half the class for one assignment.
